On this day in 1789, the first US Electoral College chose George Washington for president and John Adams for Vice President. This event was a hallmark of the rise of our nation.

On this day in 2004, Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook, from his Harvard dorm room. I believe this event is one of the harbingers of our nation’s decline.

At the time of the founding, there were literally no “national” elections. The only federal office voted by the people was the Representative. The Statehouses voted for the Senators and the House voted for President and VP (not necessarily of the same party) and the voters had to be landowners to qualify to vote at all.

The Executive didn’t campaign directly until Teddy Roosevelt.

the desire for “originalizm” is an uninformed one.

A lot of that was name recognition, because they recognized him from the dollar bills and quarters.

Yeah and John Adams’ brother Samuel got them all shitfaced on his beer.
