I can understand that he wants to keep the $2,000,000.00 advance for his book and the royalties on sales. It must cost a fortune to maintain his moustache.

Something similar happened to Willie Nelson when he claimed $1,500,000.00 a year on his tax returns for "personal upkeep and beauty products".

For $2,000,000, the question isn't what I remember, but what do you want me to say.

Have you noticed, that each of the last minute witnesses the Democrats bring to bolster their argument, walk away with large sums of money.  Go fund me included.

The advance on the book is not nearly as much as Clinton, Obama, etc

the manuscript was submitted to the White House office that does the classified material clearance before publishing.

it was not released to the press, no snippets, quotes, excerpts, nothing was released.

it was leaked by somebody in the White House.

I don't have an issue with monetizing your story, publishing a book. There are dozens already about Trump on both sides. That’s capitalism.

I have a problem with a leak being jumped on with both feet by politicians. Is Omarosa being called over her book, Coulter, etc

its a search for drama and sound bites .

two NYT "reporters" said something in an editorial to write two stories without any reference , Source or even an actual quote.

there was no leak, nothing came out and the White House would never leak it to the two hack reporters it took to write two "anonymous source" stories in a row.

"someone said that Mr. Barr said that and unpublished Manuscript said that John Bolton said that Mr. Trump said 'Quid Pro-Quo' 'undue influence' and even 'personal Favors'..."

A copy of Bolton’s book was provided to White House officials to vet the manuscript for classified information in a standard process by former government officials who write books. The timing of the manuscript’s leaked details to the New York Times to coincide with the book’s availability for pre-order online raises questions about the allegations’ credibility. Bolton’s team has denied being behind the leak, blaming the New York Times’ scoop on those working on the review process in the White House under the National Security Council’s Records Management Division.

I think the whole Bolton thing is funny from different angles.  Omarosa wrote a book and ran around selling books by claiming she had tapes, but they never appeared.  Now Bolton is likely using TDS to sell books.  Anyone seeing a pattern?

From another perspective, the president's behavior is again causing him grief.  When he cut Bolton loose, he could have taken the high road and been professional about it, but he chose to take it to the gutter, trash Bolton on a personal level, and engage in name calling.  Now, Bolton wants to talk.  When the president made it personal, he made it personal.  Now an embarrassed Bolton has a chance to return the favor and get the last word.

I always liked and respected Bolton, but now he may be getting in the gutter with the president.  I would hope the administration uses executive privilege to prevent his testimony.

Stereotypical newyorker.  My theory is that it is a result of being raised eating hot dogs cooked in Hudson River water. Sure, it gives them a different au jus flavor but the consequences are irreversible chromosomal alterations to the neurological system. Mainly the peripheral.

It is rumoured that he wanted to change his scene in the movie Home Alone 2.

His first ad lib had him saying, "Don't bother me and get out of my way you stupid jerk!".

His second proposal just had him walk on by without  even a stare at the kid, only an acknowledgment by flipping the bird with his left hand.

The producers thought that those would raise the movie's rating to at least an R.

Sen Lamar Alexander (R-TN) has been revealing his true spots the last couple years, now that he isn't running for reelection.  But he did say he would vote with Republicans on calling witnesses.  I was hoping someone would primary his arse out and that is probably why he decided to retire.

What ticks me off is their willingness to validate the substance and the process that the Dems carried out.

It's like they can't see what's beyond their nostrils.

Don't think for a minute that if republicans could get rid of Trump without hurting their reelection chances, they wouldn't jump at the chance.

There is no way to 67 votes to convict

no possible, science fiction, comprehensible way to 67 votes. None...zip...zero...nada

and every one of them knows it

it’s all about sound bites, camera time, Senators up for re-election in tight races getting exposure, weekend political show interviews, positioning.

the only people hurt by witnesses is Bernie and Warren, who are stuck in their seats instead of campaigning. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were behind the scenes trying to avoid witnesses.

Setting up Biden for the nomination. He’s an easy loss, as they’ve given up on the White House, without hurting them. Very rare for a repeat election and a nominee running twice. (Not primary, but nominee)

Warren, Harris, Booker, can run again against Pense/Haley in 2024

It's a miracle that the Dems did not ask President Zelensky to voluntarily testify. They would have had to ask very nicely, because a subpoena would never work.

The leaked NYTimes story would have read like this:

"Anonymous Democratic Party leadership sources confirm that President Zelensky was deeply hurt that he wasn't invited to eat ice cream in the White House. President Zelensky further stated that if he could, he would have sent the Bidens to the eastern front of Ukraine. 'I love ice cream, and would have enjoyed sharing a double scoop with Donnie', he added."

I posted earlier in this thread about the president and Bolton.  I just found this interesting tidbit about people (IMO) like Bolton:

Beware of ‘Serpent With the Long Memory’

Posted at 5:00 am on January 31, 2020 by Christopher Arps

One of my all time favorite books, next to the Bible of course, is a book I stumbled upon at my local bookstore almost twenty years ago.

My late friend and political mentor Sherman Parker had just won a Republican primary for state representative and I was looking for some interesting historical/political material to read.

One particular book caught my attention and I have been re-reading it consistently for close to two decades now.

The book is called The 48 Laws of Power and it is co-written by Robert Greene and Joost Elfers. This is probably the best description of the book that I have come across:

“Robert Greene and Joost Elffers have distilled three thousand years of the history of power into 48 essential laws by drawing from the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz and also from the lives of figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to P.T. Barnum…The 48 Laws of Power is ideal whether your aim is conquest, self-defense, or simply to understand the rules of the game.“

One of the ‘laws’ of the book, number 19 in particular, I believe applies to the current dust up in President Trump’s impeachment trial. The Law says “Know who you’re dealing with – Do not offend the wrong person.”

President Trump has had the most turnover than any administration in recent memory.

A great deal of those people left unceremoniously like Secretary of state Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, Anthony Scaramucci, Omarosa, John Bolton to name just a few.

Many of the above named former administration officials have written unflattering books or have made unflattering remarks about the president in TV and radio interviews. None of them seem to have had any affect on his popularity with his base

Later today, the President will dodge a potential bullet after senators vote to not call witnesses in his impeachment trial.

Former national security adviser John Bolton was due to be the Democrat House Managers new star witness in their quest to remove President trump from office.

Bolton’s book alleges the President told him directly that aid to Ukraine was directly tied to investigations of the Biden’s potential corruption in Ukraine.

I believe the Administration is making a mistake by attempting to stop publication of the book. Both sides can probably make convincing arguments on first amendment and national security grounds, but trying to stop publication makes the Administration look as though they are trying to conceal something.

Let Bolton’s book come out, and then play pre and post damage control, which the administration appears to be doing.

Law 19 of 48 laws of Power says there are five “dangerous and difficult types of people”  and one of those types of people is described as the ‘Serpent with the long memory.’

“If hurt or deceived, this man will show no anger on the surface; he will calculate and wait. Then, when he is in a position to turn the tables, he will exact a revenge marked by a cold-blooded shrewdness. Recognize this man by his calculation and cunning in the different areas of his life. He is usually cold and unaffectionate. Be doubly careful of this snake, and if you have somehow injured him, either crush him completely or get him out of your sight.”

The President did ‘get him out of his sight,’ and depending on who’s version you support, Bolton was either fired or he resigned from his position last September.

I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that a leak from Bolton’s upcoming book interjected itself prominently into the impeachment trial at this time and moment.

It was a cold blooded and shrewd act of revenge inflicted at an opportune moment to hurt the President and sell a few books in the process.

I hope this Bolton episode inspires the President to be a bit more diplomatic in the way he relieves his staff of their duties in the future.

Washington is a swamp inhabited with creatures with big egos, and while you’re cleaning up the swamp, you still must be cognizant of the “serpent(s) with the long memory” who still inhabit it.

I've been racking my brain trying to grasp the enormity of the coincidences that led to the disclosure of Bolton's alleged testimony in the NYTimes. It's one of things that boggles the mind regarding the accidental happenstances.

Just before a vote, out-of-the-blue, entirely by luck, something that no one could imagine, fresh out of the oven. Just coincidences. If only because we all know that Dems only have love in their hearts.

But then it hit me. What if it was not all due to coincidences. There could only be one rational explanation for it, namely:

Silly me....
