Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 Here are a couple of armored Jeep prototypes. The second one was called a prototype on the site where I found the pic, but that looks more like some smart troops took some initiative and covered their asses a bit. Good for them.

Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 I am guessing that poor Jeep is lugging around a lot more than a quarter-ton of cargo.
Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 How about a Jeep equipped with an M28 Davy Crockett recoilless rifle, armed with a W54 10-ton to 20-ton nuclear warhead? The M28 could launch the warhead up to 3 miles and the warhead was capable of devastating and irradiating an area about 1/4 of a square mile in size. That is undoubtedly the most heavily armed Jeep in history.

Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 Jeep drivers must have come home from the war deaf as freaking posts. I can't imagine being that near the muzzle of a Ma Duece when it fires. If you've never heard one firing, let me describe it for you. It is one LOUD son of a bitch!
Batesmotel
A 151 with a TOW II and its gear is already over its load rating before adding three crewmen and their gear and weapons.
Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 This is the 1 1/2-ton Ford GTB, called The Burma Jeep. It was used mostly by US forces, mostly in the Pacific Theater. The Navy and Marines used it, primarily. Ford produced over 15,000 of these low silhouette, short, and maneuverable GTB's in five models, with all except the GTBS had dual rear wheels: GTB truck, Cargo, the basic version with a troop/cargo carrying bed equipped with side mounted folding bench seats, GTBA truck, (US Navy) All navy versions were produced in "Ocean Grey" GTBB truck, Wrecker, (Rare, only 50 produced) GTBS truck, Bomb Service with crane (US Navy) GTBC truck, Bomb Service with crane (USN, improved)

Yep. Those were tough little bastards though.

Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 I've loved the M715 Jeep Gladiators as long as I can remember. We had a neighbor that had a surplus Gladiator, when I was a kid. That thing fascinated me. It looks big, mean and nasty. It looks like it gets the job done.

Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 This is a great picture. The Corsair is my favorite allied radial-engine fighter of the war. Probably my favorite fighter of the war overall, but there are some great contenders for that title.

Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 I didn't know they made a 151 6x6. I guess it stands to reason that they would.

Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 I don't know if this was actually an authentic desert vehicle, or if this is the result of some enthusiast's imagination, but it looks palusible enough.

Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 I've never seen a Jeep ambulance set up this way. Seems like it would be an easier ride for the patient than riding sideways over the rear tires.
Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 Some wacky Frenchman melded a Renault R4 body onto a Jeep. I guess it kept the rain off of him. Necessity is a mother.
Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 OK, this is officially the weirdest Jeep I have ever seen. It was built as an auxiliary power unit, for starting the engines on jet aircraft. Apparently these were used exclusively on aircraft carriers. Bizarre.

Administrators Eric Posted August 1, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 1, 2021 There just aren't any two features on this Jeep FC that seem to belong on the same vehicle. I love it though.
