The pictures appearing sideways usually happens with an image that is taller than it is wide. Traditional cameras typically take images that are wider than they are tall. Most pictures are taken with smart phones nowadays and they tend to take pics in a vertical aspect. A lot of software expects to see the opposite and they automatically rotate the images. This issue isn't isolated to this software. If your image gets rotated, you can try cropping it so that it is in a horizontal aspect, or closer to it. I've also had luck manually rotating an image and then manually rotating it back to the aspect I want it to be viewed in. I'll look into this and see if there is anything I can do that might help prevent images from being rotated automatically, but I am not hopeful.
