railfancwb
Robert A Heinlein’s “Stranger in a Strange Land” was published in 1961 edited from 220,000 words to 160,000 at the insistence of the publisher. The original manuscript was preserved. Peculiarities of copyright law allowed his widow to offer this to publishers. The longer book was published in 1991 while the shorter remains in print. Opinion is divided as to which is better. I’ve read both several times and haven’t answered that question consistently. If you have read both, which do you think is better? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stranger_in_a_Strange_Land
TBO
I've only read one, not sure which, assume it was the edited (paperback). That was some time ago.
Mrs.Cicero
I must have read the short version, since I read it in high school (and that was rather before 1991). Now I'll have to get a copy of the long version and read it for comparison.
