The arcing effect arises only because the image artificially compresses (nearly) the whole sky into a rectangle.

That picture should be a reminder to all of us that think we aren't omnipotent.  It's obvious that we are on the outside looking in!

We aren't the "cool kids in the galaxy" that we think we are!

It takes about 75,000 volts to jump a clear 1" air gap.  Just imagine!

Temperature of lightning ranges from 15,000 to 60,000 degrees F.
