Would someone tell me how to get my avatar in?

Go into your profile and put your cursor over the blank avatar to the left. An edit button will appear.

Oh good. I couldn't remember how I did it and once it's there, it looks different.

Yes I do that and hit the Save button and nothing happens after that. After I pick Save , since there is no or I don't see it Exit, nothing changes. The only way I can get rid of the Browser box is pick Cancel.

 

I will give it another try tomorrow.
