On this day, the USS Aaron Ward (DM-34), a destroyer minelayer, fought for her life in the waters near Okinawa. Over the course of the afternoon and evening, she suffered six Kamikaze strikes. In spite of the heavy casualties and horrific damage the vessel suffered, her crew was able to keep her afloat. After temporary repairs were made, she was towed back to the US. Due to the severity of her damage and the surplus of destroyers available, she was scrapped, but she made it home. Below is a Wiki article on her. It is an interesting read.

If you look just forward of that aft 5" gun turret, past the sailer, you can see a propeller from one of the Kamikaze aircraft embedded in the side of the superstructure.
