People don't like to be told what to think, either by their own country's leaders, or from those who intend to "rule all".

Despots and tyrants abound.  You find them always trying to tell other people what to do that is in the despot's best interests, and not the people's.

There is little difference between the UN and the EU.

The EU was a liberal sicialist wet dream

in practice it is unmanageable and filled with self interested parties that want “theirs” 

be that a weak nation wanting to be supported or a strong nation wanting to be the boss. It is still full of people and some of them are politicians. That combination of human beings and vermin can never cooperate on a level much above “Not killing each other”
