Solidarność Marlena Marlena Pavlos-Hackney came to the U.S. in 1988 after fleeing communist Poland and opened a restaurant. Marlena was arrested for keeping her restaurant open after being ordered closed for not enforcing mask rules and capacity limits. A judge gave her the option to pay $7500.00 and close her restaurant or spend 93 days in jail. Marlena now is fighting here in Michigan the same draconian dictatorship she fled in Poland. Whitmer and Nessel's infringing on citizens rights with contradictory edicts need to be stopped. Like Marlena, my grandparents fled Poland for America under at that time from the NAZI (National Socialists) Party. I stand in Solidarity (Solidarność) with Marlena and all the other businesses fighting unnecessary fines and legal battles in their efforts to defend their livelihoods. Marlena is Michigan's Lech Walesa who was also arrested and served a year in Polish prison before re-emerging and leading Solidarity into negotiations with the government that sanctioned free elections, Solidarity won an overwhelming majority of those seats in June 1989, and, after Wałęsa refused to form a coalition government with the communists, the parliament was forced to accept a Solidarity-led government, which a few years later, Walesa himself became President of Poland, and helped guide Poland through its first free parliamentary elections (1991) and watched as successive ministries converted Poland’s state-run economy into a free-market system. There was a "meeting" this morning at her restaurant with a half dozen of the Republican state senators and local media and community support. I'll be interested to see if it actually MAKES the MSM here, seeing as how the news in the state is the equivalent of 1970s Pravda in the USSR. I wish I'd known about it in time to go, but I didn't get the message til this afternoon.
