Get a request for this every Thanksgiving and Christmas...

2 (12-ounce) bags of fresh cranberries, rinsed, drained and picked through.

2 cups sugar.  I use raw turbinado cane sugar but any will work.

1 cup Vodak ++

8 tqblespoons orange- flavored liqueur,  Grand Marnier or Triple Sec

One large ornge.

Some added water. To Prepare:

First test the vodka to see if it is fresh.  Repeat to make sure......

Zest the orange peel then squish the orange.  To this add water to one cup

In large pot, moderate heat, add cranberries, sugar and orange/water mix.

Bring to boil, stirring often.  Sample vodka from the bottle again while doing this.

When cranberries start to pop turn down heat and simmer.  I use a potato masher to squash them down at this stage.

Sample vodka again..  Hard work mashing the cranberries.

When thickens transfer to large bowl and cool,until tepid..  About 30 minutes .

Long watch so maker sure the vodka in the bottle is still fresh.

When is tepid dump in the vodka and liqueur and stir in.  Make sure you sample the vodka again to make sure is still fresh..

When cool put in fridge...

Finish up the vodka......

Dave..

We make something very similar for the holidays in our house. The only difference is when we get to this step we substitute it with;

"When is tepid, pour into trash can, finish vodka."

Salude!

I make something similar with cranberry.  Al's version of the Cosmopolitan.

In a cocktail shaker with crushed ice, add two parts Tito's, one part (and this is very, very important) Cointreau (not triple sec, not grand mariner), squeeze of lemon, squeeze of lime, and cranberry juice until it is the right color.  Shake, shake, shake, and strain into a coupe glass with a frozen cranberry.
