PNWguy
Took my Jeep for a 25-mile trail run over a local mountain range. Super easy drive and pretty sure a Subaru Outback could have gone everywhere I did, LOL. All of the "fun" roads are now gated off by either the state or the Forest Service to reduce "environmental impact". I used to go wheeling all over this mountain when I was a teen and find all sorts of cool stuff. Now, you have to either be on foot or a mountain bike to access those places. I parked the Jeep at one gate and hiked down a trail for about a mile in search of a particularly neat spot I used to visit. It was an old homestead site with a pond next to a grove of giant cedar trees. Huge trees about 8' in diameter. Apparently the trail I went down was the wrong one as I never did find the old grove, but I did see a lot of very fresh bear sign. Every dead stump in the area was freshly ripped open by bears trying to find bugs... I used to camp up at Blue Ridge reservoir. Beautiful and green up there. I miss AZ and the varied terrain. Everything from saguaro cactus to snow-capped mountains was a couple hour drive from each other.
