By "quality" you mean much higher THC levels.

No.  While that is true, the marijuana available from dispensaries is fresh.  It makes a difference in the high.  The high from old weed that spent a lot of time "in transit" is stupefying.  Fresh weed has a different effect.

The study showed that the number of drivers testing positive for marijuana increased 100 percent from 2007 to 2012, with marijuana-related fatalities doubling from 37 to 78.

One of the reports key findings was that the number of children aged zero to five exposed to marijuana increased 268 percent when comparing the period from 2006 to 2009 to the period from 2010 to 2013: triple the national average.

Marijuana-related emergency room visits grew 57 percent in two years, from 8,198 in 2011 to 12,888 in 2013, the study found, with a 29 percent increase in emergency room visits for teens.

Other findings included data showing that seizures of Colorado pot being shipped out of state soared in 2014. Pot seizures increased 397 percent between 2008 and 2013. The average number of pounds seized increased 35.5 percent from 2005 to 2008 when compared to the time period from 2009 to 2013. US Mail parcels were intercepted being shipped to 33 states, representing an increase of 1,280 percent.

Increased distribution of and access to marijuana has also led to increases in crime, lab explosions, and poisonings, according to the study. The number of pets poisoned from ingesting marijuana increased fourfold in six years, with a total of 153 cases reported from 2006 -2012.

The report also found that the estimated annual revenue from the sale of recreational marijuana varies from $65 million to $118 million. Interestingly, the majority of counties and cities in Colorado have banned recreational marijuana businesses despite the drug being legal.

We do need one of those, don't we?    Maybe we can ask Eric for one.

As for the JPG?  I did think it was a very touchy feely hippie JPG, but I posted it anyhow.

Thirty years ago, if someone wanted pot, they could get it.  :dunno:    Now, that there are legal channels, organized crime may take a hit (no pun intended).  Since they cannot compete on quality, I have to assume that their best alternative is as a low cost provider.  I would like to see a statistic on the increase or decrease of illegal grow operations on public land.  Google and you may be provided with answers.   .... but my results conflict with each other ...  One says it decreased due to police eradication efforts.  Another says it is increasing ..

Denver Police Claim Illegal Grow Ops Are Increasing

With legal recreational marijuana available only in the last few years, Sweet said, there isn’t enough information yet to know what impact that will have on illegal domestic marijuana grows.

Illegal marijuana production has fallen drastically in recent years in Washington state, although law enforcement says public lands here remain a hotbed for cartel activity.

Washington State Patrol Lt. Chris Sweet, commander of the agency’s narcotics section, attributes the drop to increased air reconnaissance and joint cooperation between state, local and federal law enforcement.  "It moved them into other states that don’t necessarily have the response teams we do,” Sweet said.

California consistently leads the nation in illegal marijuana production, with more than 2.6 million plants seized and more than 2,400 people arrested in association with those grows in 2014. That’s due in part to the large amount of publicly owned land managed by different agencies in the state. The climate, especially in Eastern Washington, is also very favorable for growing marijuana and the Mexican cartels paying for the operations know it.

Much of the activity in Eastern Washington is controlled by the Mexican Sinaloa Cartel, according to a recent DEA and Department of Justice report. A greater number of cartels are involved in trafficking in the port cities along Puget Sound, according to the report.

“Domestically produced marijuana is typically trafficked from the West Coast — particularly from states with robust ‘medical marijuana’ or ‘recreational’ marijuana laws — to states on the East Coast and in the Southeast.”

A 2012 report on cannabis eradication said some Mexican nationals living in the Yakima Valley with ties to drug trafficking have been found at illegal grow sites as far away as Wisconsin.  As cartels have been increasingly pushed out of public land in the mountains, law enforcement in Yakima County report an increase in illegal grows on private land posing as legitimate medical marijuana grows. Illegal growers are also using farm land to hide marijuana plants among normal crops.
