The search for accurate 9mm loads continues...

I almost hate to reload for 9mm since factory Remington UMC 115gr JHPs are giving me 2.5" groups at 25yds and are around $30 for 100 at WalMart...  Using a single-stage Lee, it takes me about 2 hours to produce 100 reloads.

But, I really, really want to see my Glock 19 Gen 5 get 1.5" groups at 25yds using cheap bullets.

Best group so far:

Tonight's recipe was using the RMR 115gr plated RN using 4.7gr of 231 and 5.3gr of WSF.  I've heard those do well for 9mm accuracy.  Also have about 5 other loads using 124gr and 115gr bullets and Titegroup, Unique, and Ramshot Silhouette powders.

Anybody have any combos in 9mm that are giving great accuracy?

I actually plan on using the pistol in a GSSF match this month, so accuracy and reasonable recoil is paramount.

Trying to focus on powders I have that work well in my .40 S&W and 10mm reloads so I can begin stockpiling for the impending panic buying and shortgages next year.

231, WSF, Ramshot Silhouette, and Unique have all shown good results in the above calibers.  Was hoping they'd deliver good results with 9mm.  I also have H110, Blue Dot, and Lil' Gun on hand.

I wish I could be more of a help, but 9mm is still the hated stepchild in my reloading room. By the way, for no specific reason, 9mm is fine, I just like and prefer oddball calibers.

In general, my most accurate loads entail Bullseye, which is extremely dirty, and several powders from Vihtavuori, which are rather expensive.

I’m trying to stockpile too. Just getting started so I only have 15,000 primer.

Currently looking at Vectan powder, especially Ba 9. They have made a good name for themselves with shotshell reloaders. But reloading data can be hard to find, and when you find it they don’t list OAL. (It’s a French gunpowder and they have to be different about everything).

On the plus side, they make really good powders and the pound bottles are actually 1.1 pounds. Plus that same bottle runs $20-ish, instead of $25-ish.

Just noticed that my local WalMart sells Unique.  Either $24 or $27; can't remember... They also started carrying the Hornady 115gr XTP for $16 for 100.  Bought a box of those.  Trying to pick up extra powder, primers, or bullets every pay period.

.40 S&W, 10mm and .45ACP have always been easy to load for accuracy.  I have never found the 9mm to be an especially accurate round .  It's fine for combat shooting - may even, as advertised,  be as good a defensive round as the others. I'm personally still not convinced and as for reloading, for me it's a bit of pain in the a** to handle the little 9mm cases & bullets. I reload it on rare occasions but it's too much of a chore to be fun and I do enjoy reloading.  Good luck with your 9mm endeavor.

I’ve had good results with VV N320 and WSF with 147 grain bullets.   Many years back I had a load for 124 grain Star jacketed bullets and 231 but I don’t recall the data for it.   N320 is the best so far but not the cheapest.  I’m also interested in the Vectan powders.

Results were nothing if not consistently inconsistent...

2" at 25yds was the benchmark, with 1.5" the ultimate goal.  A few loads did 2", none did better than that.  But then those same loads gave awful groups later.  All bullet weights would do 2" in one flavor, then 5" in another.  Powder types were all over the place as far as good groups.

Really, really frustrating due to complete inconsistency of results.

Might have to shorten the distance to eliminate more interference from my eyes and booger hook.

Some of the frustrating results...

147gr XTPs were all over the place from great to horrible...

Really wanted the RMR 124gr JHPs to do well, but they were usually pretty bad with a couple of exceptions, of course...

The other bullet I really wanted to do well was the RMR 115gr RN that I can get really cheap.  But it was mediocre...

And tried the 124gr XTPs.  One was a great group, then next five were awful.

I still have some 115gr Hornady XTPs to try and will see if I can see which powder tends to deliver better groups, but so far it's all over the place.  I also bought a couple of more boxes of commercial ammo to see if it performs.

At this point, nothing really substantially and consistently outperforms the cheap Remington UMC 115gr JHPs from WalMart.  So really not much point in reloading for 9mm considering the cost vs. gains with these results.
