I'm just a firm believer in starting them on the training as soon as possible, so as soon as they are eligible to carry, they can. +1 I've taught more than a few teenagers the basic NRA courses in Pistol and Rifle. At least a few I followed up with got carry permits when they could.

Wyzz Kydd
Make sure local PD knows what's up. That way if they need to come collect a body hopefully they'll be on your side.

SO many good suggestions in this response. I would just add American Kenpo to this list.

GlocknSpiehl
Other suggestions. Have her stick one of these in her shirt pocket or clipped to her uniform, so she can record the bad guy. https://www.amazon.com/Camera-SANPROV-Portable-Recorder-Multifunction/dp/B07F3MPYK8/ref=sr_1_4?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1546712042&sr=1-4&keywords=pen+camera Also, surprised no one has suggested this. https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-cm-smith-wesson-heat-treated-collapsible-baton?selectedImageHash=4Q2TcCbpkHWQoeL1XMe3pnReVBha

(I have several hardwood canes (some made by a "karate" guy). I always have one with me, especially when traveling.)

It’s the only weapon the TSA won’t take from you as you board the airplane.
Huaco Kid
I can climb up and down 400' ladders and haul tools and equipment up and down with ropes, and play hockey. But I still need a cane to walk down a block to the restaurant.

Huaco Kid
I've used it defensively (kind of) once. I was at a bar in Nome, late at night. (hey, it's their national pastime, and I hadn't drank in two months.) I went to the sidewalk to smoke. Some of the "eskimos" followed me, and some were already out there. They "asked" for money. They started getting too close as they "asked" more forcefully. I poked the closest one (pretty hard) in the middle of the chest with the cane, like it was a sword. They were all so drunk that they all went down like bowling pins. I went back inside, stayed inside, had a few more, and called a taxi. I saw some of them come back in, but they left me alone.
Silentpoet
What used to happen around here is those who we knew were offenders but not with provable offenses were given extra attention and traffic tickets or such. Some would move away.
kerbie18
Yup, I may have gone too far. (Definitely won't be allowed for daily carry, yet)
