So you want the opposite of a 19X? Or G45?

Comparison from observation, not use ?

Basically, this Poly80 is the same as a G17 with the mag well cut down to take G19 mags.  That gives a longer sight radius, giving more accuracy for longer shots.  Shorter handle gives better conceal-ability than the 17.

The 19X has a 19 slide with the extended magwell of the 17.  Two more rounds, shorter barrel for more comfortable sitting.  Marksman barrel for accuracy, modular build of handle for more comfort.  The longer handle could be a lot more comfortable for shooters with big hands.

Comments:

Poly 80

You can buy a 17 and cut down the magwell.

The Poly 80 is an 80% receiver, so not a gun, so off the books.

Lower needs machining.

19X

Since Glock mags are interchangeable within calibers, you can just stick a 17 (or 33) round mag in the 19 magwell.  It won’t look cool, but if you really need the cartridges now, do you care about looks?

The more accurate barrel is nice, but Lone Wolf (advertiser here) has been selling Glock aftermarket barrels for years.

Gen five already has adjustable grips and no grooves.

And now, having completely confused myself, and made no decision, I will now sign off, so I can have nightmares about not having the right weapon when the time comes??.

highly recommended

.

So the gunsmith that was linked charges $70 to shorten the grip and another $65 to texture it with an unknown turn around time(he states he is a full-time LEO, so one guy working on pistols on the weekend).  Or, pay $150 (or less) for a frame designed from the ground up with a shorter length, with improved grip angle, choice of four colors, and is off the books as far as the ATF is concerned.

But with the new frame, you do need to do some of your own work, and either use your existing parts or buy more.

Hmmm...

It depends on how much tabletop gunsmithing you want to do. My turn around time was about two weeks, that’s been a couple or three years ago.

but I know myself enough to know that I’m gonna screw up the first frame and have to get another one ?

I've never liked the G17, but when they came out with the G19x I liked it a lot especially after I got to shoot one. But I hated the Coyote Turd Yellow color. But shortening the slide really improved the looks and the feel of the G17 which is essentially what the G19x is, a G17 with a shorter slide.

I can't imagine a G17 with a shorter grip would be an improvement over the G17 however, and much less so than the G19x.  I shoot the G19 better than I can a G17 in spite of a half-inch longer sight radius and many people shoot a G26 better than the alrger guns in spite of the klongre sight radius so I don't think tehre's any advantage to a G17 slide on a G19 frame. And I shoot the G19x better than I can either a G19 or a G17 so the is and advantage to the longer grip especially one with noi finger grooves.

And as far as the 1/2 inch of barrel producing more velocity, for each inch of barrel, the average loss or gain is 50 fps. and for a half an inch that's only 25 feet per second.  Differences in velocity between to nearly identical guns with the same barrel length are often more than 25 feet per second so the difference of a half an inch is pretty much irrelevant.

I see no advantage to a G17 with a shorter grip because the only thing I like agout the G17 is it's longer grip. If you want a gun that's more compact than a G17, that's what the G19 is for. But if you want a full sized duty gun with a better feel and balance than the G17, that's the Glock 45 in the normal black color.

In my case, I’m only speaking for myself here, I already had the G17 and didn’t want to buy a G19.

Judging from the picture you posted, you did a nice job of it, But my experience is that the G19 is about the biggest gun I can comfortably carry and I wouldn't want it to be any bigger.

Agree for concealed carry.

But this is what I’d really like for home defense

pretty much a one hit stop.
