tous
Note that it has been a very long time since I was active military, but back before dirt was invented, female Navy and Marine officers had their own, different covers. Watching the funeral of Mr. Bush, I noted that female officers all wear the basic peaked cap. When did this all happen? Did I get old when I wasn't watching?
blueiron
The Naval services have changed covers to reduce costs and present a more uniform appearance, according to the DoN. The proposed and adopted uniform changes have taken place over the past several years.

Moshe
LOL. I remember, "Don't walk on my grass!" I guess they own the grass? Also, "Don't lean on my bulkhead!" Since when is a wall a bulkhead? "Male a hole!" made more sense.
tous
Don't call a hatch a door. Don't call your rack a bed. Don't call a ladder stairs. Don't call the head a toilet. I have my father's copy of the Bluejackets Manual from 1943. It still included a large section on how to police, where and how to set up your hammock. Yes, Naval vessels and troopships still used hammocks during World War II.
