A few years ago there was a glut of fantastic vintage stereo gear on the market. It has all dried up. Haven’t seen anything good in a long time.

Not exactly in a thrift shop but  did get a bunch of old Dynaco ST80's, ST120's, SCA80-Q's, A couple of ST-70's, ST150's,  Pat-4's and Pas-pre amps for free.  Plus a basket full of parts.  All for free..  Just had to remove it all.  There may be more, it's all stacked up for now.

I always visit the local thrift shop.  I have found many things of interest there.  Even dumb Ethernet switches for a couple bucks to expand my video cameras.

I frequently buy very nice costume jewelry for my Grand daughter that's in college.  This started when she was in high school.  She and I seem to have the same taste in jewelry.  I have purchased hundreds of dollars of stuff for her over the years.  She is the "go to for jewelry" person in her sorority.  She says the girls tell her that they wish they had a Grandpa like hers.

I used to look for loose change in one thrift shop and especially for older silver coins. They sold the coins by the ounce and I was very happy when I found a French 20 Franc gold coin among them. I paid something like 12 cents for it and over time got a handful of silver coins from all countries, including a Liberian quarter and Swiss Francs for a couple of Dollars.

I also had bought a well made attache case to use as a range bag that was locked for $5 and opened the combination lock  at home to find a gold filled Cross pen in it.

Thanks.

Was looking and there is an old Kenwood L-07T fm tuner and a Sansui AM/FM Stereo tuner, AM stereo if that ever took off.

There is a pretty impressive antique store in my town of 1200.  Never gone in it in five years of living here since having lived in Iowa for years where antiques are dirt cheap, I am usually disgusted by the prices out West.  Couple of months ago my mom and dad were visiting and mom insisted on going in.

So glad I went!  they had a huge section of "guy" stuff with old tools and camping gear.  I ended up buying an old hand drill for $20 that is worth closer to $50 online.

Very cool tool and is now part of my decor...

Many moons ago I found a real and mint Gretsch White Penguin that was stripped of all hardware and electronics.  Probably used to make a fake White Falcon.  It took a decade to scrounge up all of the vintage parts.

I had to do a Google search to find out what the _ _ _ _ you were talking about!?

I have purchased watches with the dealers stickers still on them for $5.  Many watches I have simply needed a battery change, and some of the more expensive ones had a second battery underneath a circuit board, that had never been changed.  I have an assortment of very nice "Expedition", "Ironman" "Chronograph", Casio and Wenger brand.  All cost no more than from $5 to $12.  I finally quit buy watches, I have so many I can't wear them anyway.

I also buy watches just to get the bands, It's surprising how many people put expensive bands on inexpensive watches.

Sometimes you can walk into good deals..  For me has been only a few times in my life.  Mostly with electronic equipment with me.  Got an antique cast iron parrot bottle opener one time.  Still have that.

Any good thrift store finds lately?  If you do such a thing.

I got a pair of Propper tactical canvas pants in my size for 4 dollars at goodwill.  Brand new, with all the labels attached.  On their website it was 39.99 I think.

Odd you mention this. I donated a pair not long ago just like that. I only tried them on once, but not long before I hooked up with a really dirty girl. Crabs were an issue. I had to get rid of all my pants and underwear. I didn't want to throw them away, so I donated them all.

So you're also a short dumpy fellow who likes easy women too?  We could be brothers.

A friend of mine, in his more ethically flexible days, found a couple of capacitors meant for car audio in the thrift shop.  They looked typical:  long, silver cylinders with red digital numeric displays to show voltage levels.  He found something else in the store to put a bit of a charge on them and took them to the register.

"I'm not sure what these are, but they're counting down..."

He got a deal that day.

Got some waders for $5 I sold on eBay for $50. I get most of my nice button up shirts for work there. A good belt$3, a pair of redwing boots $10, a food mill for $3.

Bought a nice looking $3 pair of jeans half off for $1.50 with tags still on them.  They fit so well I looked them up to buy more and they were $150 jeans.

Mostly it’s junk but the Salvation Army is next to the grocery store so I always run through there before I buy food.
