Sessions

The hot take on Sessions seems to be that he should be fired, drawn and quartered, and apparently jailed for drinking swamp water and deep state treason....

but the focus seems to be on protecting Trump over all. As AG, Sessions has.....(and this is taken from a liberal site, if he is pissing of the liberals he can’t be all bad)

Sessions has moved to reverse a tide of progressive reform and to fulfill his boss’s law-and-order agenda, a collection of concepts loosely articulated during the 2016 presidential campaign. Sessions’ biggest actions, from undermining federal oversight of police departments to cracking down on undocumented immigrants, have worried a wide array of lawmakers, law-enforcement leaders, advocates and scientists.

Of all the cabinet members, maybe even the president, he has to this point had the most significant impact as to policy changes,” said Jesselyn McCurdy, the deputy director at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Washington Legislative Office.

Violent crime is actually at near historic lows, and the increase in the last two years can be attributed largely to several big US cities. But Sessions is playing a long game here. Once the notion of national crime wave is established—or imagined—it will become the duty of the chief law-enforcement official to fight it. This sets the stage for a new war on crime

Just two weeks after his swearing-in, Sessions took his first big step to dismantle the Obama legacy in the Justice Department, announcing he was rescinding an August 2016 memo from then-deputy attorney general Sally Yates to phase out the use of private prisons for federal inmates.

Sessions said Yates’ decision impaired the DOJ prison agency’s “ability to meet the future needs of the federal correctional system,” hinting at impending plans that will likely swell the federal prison population: the administration’s immigration crackdown and Sessions’ own revived “War on Drugs.”

On May 12, he sent a memo to federal prosecutors around the country, instructing them to pursue the most serious penalty possible for any given offense. In practice, this includes charging nonviolent, low-level drug offenders with long mandatory minimum sentences, a practice reminiscent of the 1980s and ’90s War on Drugs. This also was a reversal of an Obama-era policy, introduced by then-attorney general Eric Holder. Commenting on Sessions’ decision, Holder called it “dumb” and ideologically motivated

Sessions can’t build Trump’s border wall, but he sure can make good on the president’s other anti-immigrant promises. In April, Sessions, at the US-Mexico border, announced: “This is the Trump era.” He explained what that meant: instructing prosecutors to charge immigrants re-entering the country with a felony rather than a misdemeanor and telling them to crack down on the “harboring” undocumented immigrants.

He also announced that he would be sending more immigration judges to states on the Mexican border through a new “streamlined” hiring plan. Speaking about drug cartels that “turn cities and suburbs into war zones,” Sessions said that “it is here, on this sliver of land, where we first take our stand against this filth.”

Supported by the country’s largest police union, Sessions and Trump have talked up their support for law-enforcement officers. Even in his immigration memo, the attorney general says that his most important instruction to prosecutors is to make pursuing crimes against federal law-enforcement agents a top priority.

Just days earlier, the DOJ announced a wide review of agreements with police departments across the country, potentially undermining important reforms across the country. These so-called “consent-decrees,” first introduced in the 1990s and ramped up during the Obama administration, have had undoubtedly mixed results. Advocates emphasize their importance for keeping police accountable. No one can say this was a surprise—Sessions opposed consent decrees when he served as US senator, and during his confirmation hearing for attorney general he said they “undermine the respect for police officers.”

In yet another reversal from the previous administration, the DOJ under Sessions will not go out of its way to advance and promote reliable science in the courtroom, despite pleas from the country’s top criminologists and forensic scientists. Sessions did not renew the term of the National Commission on Forensic Science, a body formed in 2013

so it seems to me that as AG, he has been all we wanted and more. Could it be that he is being judged by his not shielding Trump?

was Trump appointing an AG or a Trump legal dept. to cover his ass?

Is he supposed to be the United States Attorney General.....or the Trump Attorney of Protection?

to fall back on the reflexive response of the Trump faithful whenever Trump may be criticized.......better than Hillary’s AG

The Attorney General, whose job also includes to prosecute those suspected of treason (Hillary - Uranium, Private Server for Classified Governmental Communications, Trump Dossier, ...  ), tax evasion (Sharpton), collusion (Trump - to make it easy for you, he should not have recused from the investigation). We know the Law should be blind, but it should be blind both ways.

Under Sessions watch, a fascist organization (Antifa) has run amok beating everyone one in their way who dares to exercise the 1st Amendment. Sessions has remained silent.

Under Sessions watch, illegal immigrants are killing Americans daily - I don't care how tough you think he is with illegals, he's expected to round them ALL up - or, at least try- and deport them.

Under Sessions watch, California Politicians has repeatedly defied Federal Immigration Law releasing illegal criminals to the streets.

And many more.

Being better than Lynch or Holder does not make anyone brilliant.

Let’s see...Antifa that I have seen have been face to face with.......cops, in riot gear, arresting them. Would you rather they were told to stand down to let the rioters express their first amendment rights (Baltimore)

round up ALL illegals....you honestly believe that’s possible, right now, everywhere.  The murderers are not in federal prison, or released from federal prison. Do you think Sessions should assume control over state and local police forces

Fighting the California politicians releasing state prisoners in their state....must be fought in court, and it is being fought right now.

The Election/Russia/collusion/Trump is a bad bad guy/ investigation is a political game. Nothing is found, nothing will be found, nothing but low level “gotcha” charges that have nothing to do with justice or actual, substantial criminal activity. Everyone in DC with two brain cells knows this.....it’s politics, nothing more.

should Sessions neglect his actual duties as AG to become another spokesman, testify weekly, spend all day releasing statements......like all the others. Or do his job.

and lastly......should the same standards of evidence we want applied to the Trump investigation (strict, concrete, proof) be applied to Hillary (who we just know is dirty)

we critisezed Obama for politicizing every agency....but want every agency to exist to protect Trump at every turn.

again, did Trump appoint Sessions to be AG, or to be his fixer?

I 'm curious.  Since the OP seems to have such a high regard for Sessions, do you also hold Rod Rosenstein in equally high esteem? How about Mueller? Our Justice department doesn't even seem like it's the Trump administration's Justice Department. It seems more like it's still under control of the Obama administration. Same with the FBI.

And it's not just that Sessions, who is supposed to be in charge, follows Rosenstein's lead, or that the two of them are doing everything to help the Mueller "Russian Collusion" investigation in regards to the election, It's their repeated and persistent reluctance to investigate the actual collusion and corruption in regards to the election on the part of the Obama administration or Hillary Clinton in regards to the DNC-funded Steele Russian Dossier and the subsequent bogus FISA warrants.

So no, the justice department's job isn't to protect the current party in power, but it shouldn't be to protect and assist and refuse to investigate any wrongdoing on the part of the opposition party either.

Maybe Sessions is just a weakling who's tried to do a half-ass job as Attorney General but ended up allowing himself to be pushed around by Rosenstein and Mueller, but I don't think he deserves much more respect than either of them do. This whole phony "Russian Collusion" investigation is just a dishonest and  unprecedented overt  partisan political ploy to overturn a presidential election and anyone who can't see that isn't seeing the blatantly obvious and isn't seeing forest for the trees

I guess it all comes down to hero worship and slavish followers.

I don’t know if Reagan would have had the same if there was Internet forums back then..

but just look at yourselves, remember when Lindsay Graham was a never, deep state, rino, McCain butt buddy?

but then he agrees with Trump on tv for anything. NK, Sessions, whatever and the response is...”Senior Senator agrees with Trump”

the responses are a campaign advisors dream, total and complete capitulation at the drop of a hat. Coulter was the darling of the right when she was on HBO and said Trump was the best viable candidate..she could do no wrong, wrote two books about him and sold them out

but then she disagreed with him over immigration, DACA, and said he hadn’t done what he stated he would do......”whore, scum, traitor, sleazebag, swamp, etc, etc”

if McCain came out right now and said that Trump is one of the greatest evar!!!

you all would send flowers to his funeral.

people scream fake news, fake news....but if it’s something they want to hear then is proof of swamp corruption at the highest level, treason!!

the examples go on and on.

The Obama faithful were much the same. Looking for seven more states to visit, halos, rainbows from his hands......and we laughed  at them. When Obama said Fox News wasn’t real journalism we trashed him for just not liking the truth.

when Trump said “fake news” you cheered and taunted them.

dont be a sheep
