HOUSTON - Houston police arrested Davon Shavelle Miller, 17, after he had a fight with an officer that was caught on video and posted to Facebook.

An officer pulled over Miller, who was driving a car connected to an aggravated robbery and shooting in Harris County, the Houston Police Department said.

Miller got out of the car and ran, the Police Department said, and the officer chased and tackled him. The Facebook video begins sometime after that, and lasts just over a minute.

“Stop resisting!” a bystander with a phone yelled at Miller more than 10 times throughout the video. “It’s not worth your life!”

“He’s trying to kill me!” Miller yelled more than once.

While the officer is lying on top of Miller, Miller appears to grab the officer’s handcuffs. An unidentified man is helping the officer, who can be heard warning Miller that he will shock him with a stun gun him if he doesn’t let go of the handcuffs.

“This guy is absolutely a threat. He had a pistol in his car that his girlfriend actually wrapped in a towel and threw it in the bushes while our officer (was) fighting with him,” said Joe Gamaldi, president of the Houston Police Officers' Union.

“Not only that -- you watch the video. He’s grabbing our officer’s gun,” Gamaldi said.

Miller appears to reach for and touch the officer’s gun toward the end of the video. He yelled five times, “I didn’t grab his gun!”

Another bystander, dressed like a security guard, who appears to be recording on her phone, walks into the frame in the middle of the video. She walks around the officer and Miller during the scuffle.

“Help me!” the officer yelled after Miller appeared to grab for his gun. “Stop f---ing filming and help me!”

“You know, a so-called security guard, a complete joke. She should be ashamed of herself,” Gamaldi said, adding that he thought she should be fired immediately.

It was not clear whether or not she was, in fact, a security guard and, if she was, it is not clear where she worked. The gas station clerk at the Valero said no security guards were employed there.

Miller has been charged with felony disarming a police officer for attempting to take the officer's gun, Gamaldi said.

you know what another name for a security guard is?

A civilian.  Anyone that thinks any different is an idiot.

Yes, I know security guards that are actually police officers, but your standard run of the mill security guard is just a civilian paid to walk around and look to make sure nothing walks off.  Why exactly should a security officer be ashamed of themselves for not interfering with a police officer in the line of duty?

(if you didn't watch the video one idiot said the security guard should be ashamed of themself for pulling out a camera rather than getting involved in the situation)

that Officer need a lot more training in subduing a person.

not to Monday morning quarterback but with another grownass man holding the bad guys right side i can`t understand why he was having such a problem keeping his other arm under control.

that Officer needs some ground fighting training right now,i don`t know if someone should feel compelled to jump in until asked for help, but when asked for it at least consider actually helping.

i am Glad the Officer made it.

The Security Guard followed her training.  Don't get involved, be a good witness.

BS, if the cop’s on the ground in need of help and asking for help I’m going to help him and to hell with training or company policy. Somebody should have kicked the perp in the face then put a knee across the back of his neck.

That’s a good thing! Life would be pretty boring with a few billion of me running around and no hawt women!

Joking aside I have no respect for anyone who wouldn’t help a cop in need, barring some type of physical disability that prevented it.

A donkey punch could have taken the wind out of the perps sails.

...but violated the Department's Use of Force Policy and as such the Officer could/would have been:

  • Subject to punishment by his agency, up to and including termination
  • Sued by the arrestee
  • Prosecuted by the DOJ

What if a bystander does the donkey punch? Or even a swift kick in the nuts?

So apparently it is a state law or something that a security officer is required to come to the aid of a police officer if they request it, according to the local news channel.

If you take the security job, you should know and follow all the laws that go along with it.

Yes, earlier I said a security guard is just a civilian, and I stand by that, but if part of the gig involved assisting police when asked, then that's what you do.

With that added information, she did not do the correct thing, and therefore has no need to work a job that she won't follow her legal commitments that go with the job.

The added information that a private security guard is mandated to help a police officer is bringing up a few questions for me. Will the employer cover medical bills and provide protection from the frivolous law suits that have increased exponentially since BLM encouraged disobediance and resistance to law enforcement? Were the training requirements adjusted to give them the means to wrestle someone? A Dallas PD officer is required to carry his weapon and badge all the time (unless drinking) and is covered by the health insurance, membership in the police union includes a legal insurance against duty related law suits.

Police academies all over the country have different standards, Texas has the TCOLE with a statewide standard and Dallas PD has an additional three months of reality based training, making their recruits very sought after by other police departments. Honestly, I think that security guard did not have the level of training, nor necessary physical fitness to be an asset in a fight.

Just from what I saw of her walking around in the video, I'd agree with that.

Maybe her next job in security will be guarding a crispy creme or dunkin donuts?
