The Triton!

If that means something to you....you will love this.  I am a huge fan of all things Ace Cafe/Rockers/Ton Up/59.  The center of that culture was the Cafe Racer.  Triumphs, Nortons, Enfields, BSA..... but there was a few folks making the ultimate hybrid, the Triton.  The Norton chassis was known for its handling. Triumph made the best engine (Tri (umph) (nor) ton.....Triton)

The modern Triton!

Oddly enough, the same situation exists.  The modern (retro) Norton is pure wicked but is a low production bike from a small company that owns the rights.  Triumph is still kicking and is an international company that sells a lot of bikes.  Their engines are rock solid.

Of all things that are awesome, this gets a seat at the table!

My last Triumph was a Rocket 3. Sold it a year or so back. The Triton is nice, unfortunately at me age I'd be done after a run around the block.

I was watching Mecum motorcycle auction over the last couple of days. There were several of those highly stylized choppers that were all the craze 8-10 years ago that ran across the block. A Big Dog and an Arlen Ness are two I remember though there were others. The Arlen Ness got a single bid of $10K and didn't sell. The Big Dog with almost no miles was no reserve and sold for $16K. Another one that was quite outrageous (S&S engine mounted sideways) also sold for 16K (I think). As I recall those one off customs were selling for at least $30K and some a lot more. I'd bet that a lot of people learned that while they might look cool, they were no fun to ride.

The Harley clone/chopper craze was a hell of a bubble and it has popped.  I know more that a few people who spent north of 40 grand (some north of 100) on a custom Harley clone/chopper.  No one ever rode them much.  Now they are  pristine art that they can’t get 20 cents on the dollar for.

I don’t hold it against anyone.   You want what you want and if we all only made good choices, life would suck and the economy would crash....but specific to the chopper craze, I believed it would end up like it has.
