I used to break motor mounts on a regular basis. Don't know how they broke only driving the car to church on Sundays.

*OldSchool*
'Back in the day' (for me) 108 octane Sunoco racing fuel was available for ~$2.50 a gallon. Discovered it is true that a high compression engine is necessary to take full advantage of higher octane. If I'd had some money to play with - would have built a 12.5:1 compression engine just for the fuel. Would have been a fun daily driver.

Added with a high lift cam and Doug Thorley Headers, Holly 1250 cfm. carb. on a Aluminum Eldelbrock hi rise manifold. Was hard on starters as well. We raced for money and the women loved the winers. The good old days. Dave..

DrB
What are you stories... Someone besides me must have raced the roads. My Dad and his brothers did. He told me some of the stories in his later years before he passed. Runs in the family.... What you folks got? Dave..

So it isn't the location right next to the track that sells them, but this location is still close:

aomagrat
I remember when the Sunoco pumps had a dial on them for you to select from about 5 or 6 different grades.

I'm told by some friends that worked at gas stations back then, the best part was when they had to check out under the car while the young lady stood alongside the car waiting for their evaluation. 2
DrB
There was a Marathon station here before the days of self serve who had girls in shorts and small tops pumping gas. They always had lines at the pumps. So I was told..... Dave...
