I agree that it doesn't really look right with the top down. the way Ford dealt with it was to make the roof a little sho0rter and the rear deck cover longer and have the roof fold so that it would fit into the space. The rear deck also had a folding piece that looked better when the top wad down, But Ford had more room to work with on the full sized Fairlane.
