This should be outside EVERY school

My son-in-law teaches high school and he is fairly proficient with firearms.  His district started this and he really, really wanted to participate.  But the more he looked into it, the more he realized that it was basically a responsibility deflection by the district and it would absolutely be a no-win situation, no matter what the armed teacher did or how he acted.  Even if he did nothing, the liability could be potentially enormous.

The potential liability against him or the school system?

I have a friend back in New Orleans that is a public school teacher.  He's also a retired 75th Ranger.  If armed he's is more than capable of handling any given situation.  Much more so than 99% of the ridiculous NOPD.

This is a valid point - especially considering how political school boards can get.

My issue with arming teachers is quite simple - there are very, very few like your son in law or my father, who is a Vietnam combat vet.  But a whole lot more that think they are as good as they are.  Plus "proficient with firearms" =/= "good in a firefight."

I'd honestly rather it be armed professionals within the school with the primary focus on safety.  That way you can put them in the most vunerable areas.

This has worked very well for Israel since the school massacre @ Ma'alot in '74.

True, but I hope the US isn't in a situation similar to Israel.  If so, we are doing something very, very wrong.

The U.S. is, in fact, in a situation similar to Israel; that's the whole point. "No gun" zones aren't very effective - quick, armed responses are. We have been doing things very, very wrong for many years now. That's why we are reaping the present consequences. The current president is trying to change that stupid, self destroying culture many are still trying to hold on to.
