SC Tiger
Timberland Pro Titan titanium toe boots. Not sure how old but I haven't worked at that company in nearly ten years, and I got them not too long after I started there. So probably 12-13 years. Had them for my previous job but still use them around the house. Most recently while cutting up a tree I had dropped because it had a lot of rot in it (old water oak, was actually five trees that had grown together, and it had a lot of rotten parts that were dropping branches all over the place). Or perhaps ‘used’ is the correct term. They don't owe anyone anything. Edited August 14, 2018 by SC Tiger
Huaco Kid
The tread's not even half gone. There's a reason boots have replaceable soles.

The soles on those were always kind of hard - never had much grip. Kinda funny because the current model is advertised as having slip resistance. I'm guessing they were made that way for wear resistance. They also have electrical hazard protection. They may also be from a bad batch of sole material, but after around 13 years I can't really complain. The past few years I haven't worn them much as my current company doesn't require steel toed shoes. I've seen something like that happen - though nowhere near as bad - on a couple of pairs of Rocky boots. But the sole material on Rockys is - or was - ****. That's why I don't buy Rockys anymore. In this case I suspect the age got them, not the wear. I have a second (older) pair somewhere - in my garage I think. I need to check to see if they are showing any signs of this same failure. Walt Longmire
Shoe Goo would fix that right up.
PBCounty
Just for kicks, put them up on ebay. I'll bet you get offers. As a frequent buyer of new yet rare and out of production dress boots, I somehow come across seriously used up work / combat boots on there which seem to have bidding activity. I don't know if it's a sexual thing or what...but it's weird.
Walt Longmire
A couple years ago I wore a pair of Cabelas hunting boots on a 15 mile round trip hike in the Kenai Mountains. I hadn't worn them for a while, and apparently the glue holding the soles on had deteriorated. I lost the first sole about a mile into the hike out. Lost the other about a mile from the end. I took them back to Cabelas and they gave me a brand new pair. Stitching would have helped. When did they go to glue only? Huaco Kid
I also had some Cabela pac-type boots. They had soft, spongy soles. I wore them one winter and when I pulled them out the next year, they instantly started disintegrating as soon as I touched. them. I hucked them. I think that was the last thing I ever bought from Cabelas.

The ones I got were unworn and a wet cloth and some Lexol made them look brand new. (and I put red laces in them. 'cause I'm weird) So far, they've only been for city wear. And an internet miracle: the ones I got fit like a glove. https://colemans.com/shop/boots-and-footwear/swedish-military-wwii-era-mountain-boots/
SC Tiger
I did post the pic on Twitter with @Timberlandpro. Just to see what they say. Not trying to get free boots - I’d say after 13 years they don’t owe me anything.

I know that the picture was taken on the hood of a car or something, but the reflections of the clouds make it look like your worn out footwear is on its way to boot Heaven. ?
TeaDub
Nothin' that a roll of duct tape couldn't fix. It could also improve the sole's grip if done the right way....
