This is too tragic for words.

What she did is inexcusable under any conditions

Older generations have different values.  It reminds me of my father's words when he could no longer take care of himself.

When he resigned himself to a "rest home", he said his life was over, he was worth nothing if he couldn't work, he simply saw this as going to a place to die.

It was his perception.  But he died not long thereafter from pneumonia and lack of any activity, from feeling useless.

Dementia was not mentioned in any of the reports I've seen or read but I have to wonder. I just don't know how you arrest/jail a 92 year old. That being said, I know you can't just pretend it didn't happen.

The other members of her family must be beside themselves.

Who owned the house? If it was hers, the son should have moved out. Other than that, she is guilty, and a threat to society. What's next? Going to shoot a cook of a restaurant because she didn't like the food? You can't let her walk free, that's for sure.

It was the son's home. He had moved her in there recently. Doubtful she's a threat to society without weapons available; she's 92 for Hell sakes. I just wonder if she was clear of mind enough to know what she was doing.

Somebody capable of shooting and killing a human being is also capable of poisoning somebody, or burning down a house in the middle of the night. There's literally a thousands ways to kill somebody, and many don't require a firearm. Since it wasn't even her home, she has absolutely no leg to stand on. She belongs in jail.

This picture alone tells me what I need to know... not much intuition needed...

You must see something I don't. I see a 92YO, wheelchair bound woman that's been through Hell the last 24 hours. Do you see a hardened criminal?

My sweet, never raised her voice or a hand to anyone mother, became combative in her last few months dealing with dementia. It happens.

I see somebody who is capable of killing, and that is now a fact. She doesn't look like your average 92 year old lady, she looks like a person full of hate.

There is a word missing in your last post, I think you meant to say "My sweet mom". If that's the case you might attach your feelings for your mom to this person, resulting in a personal conflict. While dementia is a terrible disease and it changes behavior, it doesn't turn people into killers. Also, I searched the article for 'dementia' and couldn't find any occurrences. Did you find that detail somewhere else or is it an assumption?
