I don't believe it.

The rules of arithmetic precedence of operators states that one performs division and multiplication from left to right and then subtraction and addition from left to right.

Thus, 220 * 0.5 is performed first yielding 110.

Then, 230 - 110 is performed yielding 120.

Enter the same sequence in any calculator, except those using Reverse Polish Notation, and you get 120.

In order to get 5 after simplifying that sequence, one would write it as (230 - 220) * 0.5.

Parentheses take precedence over the other operators.

It saddens me that we have to constantly restate what should have been learned in elementary school.

"Calculator"? You used a calculator? No wonder you don't believe it.

Enter "5!" into your trusty slipstick and see what you get... :supergrin:
