1976 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ

I love this car.
It was special-ordered with nearly every conceivable option, 26 of them per the Pontiac historical report. The SJ had to be ordered to get the LJ, and the rare electric sunroof, leather seats, and the 200 hp 455 cu.in. four-barrel V-8 engine (last year offered) were also specified.
The original catalytic converter-equipped single exhaust system was replaced with a true dual layout featuring 2-1/2-inch pipes.
This GP was re-painted at the dealership, under warranty, which was common at the time,” the seller divulges. “GM had issues with paint and many cars were re-painted in the first year or two. Though performed many years ago, it was of extremely high quality,” he adds. “There’s been no rust ever, and no bubbling under the vinyl top ever, and the original colors have a very high degree of shine. There are no swirls, or scratches, but there is one small (1/4-inch) paint chip on the hood corner, and two very small paint bubbles, mentioned for the record.”
The rare factory electric sunroof “even comes with the original crank to close it, if the battery is dead.
“Optional 15-inch Honeycomb wheels replaced the extra-cost Rally II wheels early on,” the owner says.

This is a true gentleman’s triple-silver 1959 Impala Resto Mod with the style and grace that rolled off GM’s assembly line but better. The current owner purchased the highly optioned, well-preserved Impala from the Bob McDorman collection in 2010, and it came with factory power windows, a power convertible top and factory air conditioning, power brakes and power steering. It was then sent to Steve Cooley Motor in Homosassa, Florida, for a comprehensive, frame-off restoration that was finished in 2012. The body was finished with DuPont products, including the period-correct GM Inca Silver exterior.  Chrome items were sent to Alabama Graves Plating Co. and refinished to an exquisite state, and a set of rare, NOS side molding was found and installed to complement the magnificent paint and body work. The convertible top frame was also rebuilt, along with new hydraulic components, and then painted semi-gloss black.
A handmade convertible top was built using Mercedes-Benz Sonnenland materials. Beneath the car, the floor pans were finished in a semi-glass to keep the look of the factory red primer, but much more appealing, and the frame and suspension components have been media blasted and painted in semi-gloss black. The silver interior was finished in factory form with no exception to detail and a keen eye on detailing, including items like the restored power seat frames and the silver paint work under the dash. The original gauges functioned as they should and were calibrated for accuracy.
With only 133 miles put on following the restoration, Street Productions Inc. began the custom work in 2020, starting with a one-off, custom, tilt steering column and a custom-designed shift indicator machined by Evod Industries. It was then painted to look like it was installed on the factory assembly line. Topping off the steering column is another one-of-a-kind piece: a redesigned, 15-inch, billet aluminum steering wheel built by Evod Industries to replicate the factory steering wheel, but with ergonomics and proper proportioning in mind.
The interior is also equipped with a Wonderbar radio that has been retrofitted with Bluetooth internals and a USB port located in the original cigarette lighter location. The sound system also includes Retro Sound front and rear speakers, as well as a Pioneer subwoofer. New, hand-fitted carpet and period-correct seat belts and retractors have also been installed. OEM seat belt reinforcement plates were fit and painted to match the underside and appear original. The trunk is painted in Inca silver, with the correct trunk liners and even a custom tire-changing service kit included.
On the mechanical side, the Resto Mod improvements start with the Evod Industries, custom, billet aluminum 15x8-inch replica wheels wrapped in Diamond Back wide whitewall radial tires. Custom coil springs by Coil Spring Specialties were built to give it the proper ride height, and heavy-duty Hotchkis sway bars front and rear, along with RideTech adjustable shocks, help to keep it stable in the corners without sacrificing ride quality. The brake system has been upgraded with 4-wheel disc brakes from Wilwood Engineering, with the Wilwood master cylinder smoothed out and painted to blend into the engine bay. An 8-inch, dual-diaphragm brake booster and custom-fit Hella OEM vacuum pump help provide the stopping power, while new, custom brake lines have been fit to factory specs. The steering has been upgraded with a Saginaw 600 series power steering gear box with a custom-fitted, period-correct pump and custom, original-style hoses.
Lurking beneath the hood, the factory-equipped 348 Tri-Power V-8 has been rebuilt, blueprinted and balanced. Under the Factory Tri-Power air cleaner the replica Rochester fuel-injection throttle bodies by Autotrend EFI are about as close to the original carburetors one can get, yet coming with the throttle response and modern improvement of fuel injection. New, custom fuel lines were fabricated and routed in the factory locations, with factory retaining clips used to look as original as possible. An original-style fuel tank with a built-in high-pressure EFI fuel pump from Tanks Inc. and a custom-fit, fuel fill through cap are installed as well.  There is even an original mechanical fuel pump fit to the engine, with the fuel lines running through it to keep everything appearing original. Factory fuel injection emblems were resized and custom machined by Evod Industries for the front fenders to complement the new fuel injections system.
Behind those throttle bodies there is a Holley electronic distributor, high-output coil and a multispark ignition box. The fuel injection and ignition system are all controlled by the latest Holley EFI electronics.  The electrical system features an AGM battery with disconnect switch located underneath, as well as a high-output Powermaster Powergen alternator with all the correct badging and decals. The electrical system has been updated, with wires meticulously placed and routed in the factory locations using factory retainers, wrapping and connectors throughout the system. The voltage regulator is still in the correct location, but beneath the cover today is a Maxi fuse to keep the electrical system properly protected. During the retro fit processes, no modifications were made to the original body or chassis of the vehicle.
A new, four-core US Radiator has been custom fitted, with the OEM stamping installed to keep the original look. A high-flow, aluminum Edelbrock water pump was installed as well, with the logo welded in and refinished, along with a custom-fit, six-blade fan and heavy-duty fan clutch to keep the engine cool.
A 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 transmission and custom Hughes Performance torque converter transfer the power to the factory differential. External transmission components—from the correct GM reproduction bolts and fabricated dip-stick to the cooler lines—have been custom fit to look original as well. Components beneath the hood were painted with DuPont semi-gloss black to avoid discrepancy in the shade. To keep the original exhaust note, a hand-fit and finished stainless steel exhaust system with correct hangers exits in the duel exhaust corner pockets, as intended by Chevrolet. The Impala was then driven more than 200 miles to ensure the vehicle performed as it should before being given back to its owner.
“I am extremely meticulous when it comes the work that we put out and I’ve never had a customer push me to the extent of detail that we did on this project,” Shawn Sondergeld of Street Productions Inc. said. “It was a fun experience and I loved the challenge. This is a car that you really have to spend some time and look at to appreciate all the workmanship that not only we put in, but Steve Cooley as well.”
