Yeah that country pop just ain't right.  Until the late '70s the country guys had more of a hard rock attitude than the rockers.  They weren't pretty or polished.  But they could play the hell out of their instruments and sing without autotune.  And in the middle of a set they could rip into some Chuck Berry or Jimi Hendrix for shits and giggles (saw Waylon do it. Tore up Back in the USA an VooDoo Chile).  And not one was a liberal.

Most country today is just repackaged rap and pop with every once in a while they say something about dirt roads or drinking, or these days ******* smoking dope.  I can't even usually stand that stuff when drunk, and I"ll listen to barbie world.

Not country but many moons ago I saw Dokken at Tipitina's (I think) when the power went out.  Needless to say things came to a screeching halt.  After a bit Don Dokken came to the stage with a flashlight and ripped out acapella versions of songs by various artists.  Even without amplification his incredible voice filled the building.  I still think about the sing along he had going with Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors".  After a few songs the power was restored and they finished their set (BTW George Lynch is God).  I wonder how many "artists" today (under the age of 50) could have pulled that one off.

Want to blow your mind?  Joey Ramone and Johnny Rotten could sing in key without auto tune but Beyonce and Bieber can't.

Auto Tune belongs in a Karaoke Bar not onstage.  And yes, The Ramones another good band albeit another genre. I hear them often when Kid Leo is hosting the Underground Garage on my way home from work.

Sometimes singers just miss that note.  Or their voice cracks.  I get using autotune to catch your fall in a live performance.  During her Las Vegas stay Celine Dion played 3 shows on some days.  That's hell on the voice.  But there are people winning Grammy's for vocal performances and they can't actually sing a note.  In all of popular music Lady GaGa, Kings of Leon and Nelly Furtado are all that I know of that can actually sing in key and play an instrument.  The great Beyonce...ehh...can't sing in key to save her life.
