Some of the Worst Muscle Cars Built

From 1972 through the early eighties the car manufacturers struggled to put together smog compliant muscle cars.  In 1985, Ford started putting roller cams in its H.O. five liter Mustangs and then things started picking up.  The roller cam allowed a smog friendly duration, but augmented performance by allowing the valves to open more quickly (thus simulating a high duration cam profile).  Big blocks were dead and Ford still shipped the Mustang with heads that had a small exhaust port that strangled the engine over 4,800 RPMs, but the roller cam brought the five liter to life.  A new profile cam and a set of aftermarket heads really make a difference on these motors, but their forged pistons can take a surprising amount of abuse.

The predecessor to the four barreled Fox Body Mustangs were the Mustang IIs which had a decent body style but some really gutless motors.

You have any more to add here?

That is not a muscle car, no performance engines were ever put in , just a graphics.  The only cars I would count as muscle car in the late 1970's would be the 400 and 455 equipped trans am's and firebirds
