Given the demographic double whammy, must have been a serious screw up. One small step towards squaring away the fleet. 6

Gunboat1
Could be, or could be toxic leadership a la CAPT Holly Graf, or could be incompetence. Doubt we'll ever be allowed to know.

aomagrat
Isn't this what usually happens before they get promoted these days. I met John Finn in a casino in Laughlin Nevada over 20 years ago. We had a nice conversation over a few beers. He was a good man.
gwalchmai
I guess that's how it's supposed to work, but it seems odd that she was promoted up through the ranks with increasing responsibility only to hit a wall. As mentioned, it must have been big to counter her other two obvious qualifications. I wonder if strawberries were involved.
M&P15T
Evidently it was just poor job performance. Usually the Navy doesn't comment on such situations, but did this time. Although there isn't really any details given.

M&P15T Posted yesterday at 06:03 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:03 PM Another Commander relieved. It looks like the Navy is getting ready for war, and relieving anyone they think can't handle the coming fight. That's 4 Commanders relieved in the last 4-6 weeks or so. A PLN DDG cut-off a US Navy DDG a few days ago in international waters, a second provocative measure in the last few weeks. Navy fires destroyer USS Stout commander - Task & Purpose (taskandpurpose.com)

Our last real naval war ended some 80 years ago so none have lived experience in such.

But I think some in the US and China want conflict, and I think it's going to be very one-sided against the PLN. Naval warfare looks to be almost completely tech vs tech; missiles, torpedoes and planes vs. missiles, torpedoes and planes.
