minderasr
“As Engine Tanker 17 and Engine Tanker 19 arrived on scene it was quickly discovered that this was not your typical vehicle fire as crews quickly utilized just over 4,000 gallons of water,” according to a Facebook post from Morris Township Fire Company #1. “In total approximately 12,000 gallons of water was utilized,” the fire department posted. “To give you an idea of the severity, crews can normally extinguish a fully involved vehicle fire with approximately 500 gallons or less.” https://ijr.com/tesla-repeatedly-bursts-flames-interstate/
Huaco Kid
That's why you can't have Teslas in your checked luggage. (with e-cigs and cell phone power banks, flamage in the checked luggage is, actually, a scary thought) 2

kerbie18
The problem with lithium batteries is that they don't have to be lit on fire.. You just have to expose the lithium to air. I had a lithium battery for a small model helicopter that got punctured. Things got VERY interesting VERY quickly. A Tesla battery is many times larger of course. I've had firefighter buddies tell me that they fear the day they have to fight a Tesla fire.

I predict they will do it with bogus supply chain issues. You just won’t be able to get parts any longer for older cars. No real reason. Just oh sorry, supply chain problems.
pipedreams
Wonder what the insurance premium is on one of these cars? I would think the insurance companies would be hesitant to insure the vehicles.
Batesmotel
I do know this. EV owners have no clue how electricity is generated or distributed. 2

Park EVs in the attached garage which often has living spaces above it and wait… In due course homeowner/tenant insurance policies will exclude fire damage when an EV was inside the building.

minderasr
Imagine this happened in Kalifornia, mandating EVs for everyone. Which (if I'm not mistaken) is also under an extreme drought. 12,000 gallons of water to extinguish one car fire (multiple times). What happens when there are a slew of EV car fires happening? Where is that water coming from?

It took 5 weeks to get the parts for my 2013 truck. Then 2 more weeks because one of the parts was shipped broken. I finally got the truck back yesterday... 6 hours after I had to rent a car to drive to PA. Doh.
