How to Get the Most Out of Your Coffee Grinder

I remember as a youngster going to the grocery store with Mother. The store had a coffee grinder and a selection of beans in sacks. Pick out a sack of beans, empty them into a hopper on top. Put the now empty sack on the output spout, select grind desired, start machine. Shortly the sack would be full of fresh ground coffee.

Oh Boy.... This is VERY SERIOUS coffee, do you need to grow and pick your own beans, then roast them also..

Yep. Did I ever tell you about when I worked in the Brazilian coffee fields and we'd make our breakfast coffee with bean fresh from the fields?

Yea, there are those people. You know, Pay premium for local roasted, will not grind until ready to prepare, won't buy more than a weeks worth because it will go stale.

Then take it home, grind it wrong, throw it in a drip maker or pour through, that they paid too much for, all with a paper filter. There went all your oils and flavor.

Just buy a decent coffee, that fits your taste and put it in a French press, or better yet a pecolator. Leave the paper to wipe the jelly off your face.

I've had the same conical burr grinder for about 15 years.  Luckily, I have not noticed any decline in performance.  Every time it quits, my wife rejoices (it is rather loud).  But, after 5 minutes with a butter knife, cleaning out the nooks and crannies so the switches will close when the bin is inserted properly, she works yet again.

Same here, works like a champ.  I give it a couple wacks after I quite grinding to knock out the left overs and it'd ready for the next time.

Zassenhaus manual grinder, set to coarse grind.  Bodum french press with a little sand glass 4 minute timer.  Whole beans in any of a number of flavors from Bones Coffee Company.  If you have boiling water, you can make perfect, delicious coffee every time.
