Ugh!  I experienced something similar just yesterday.  Elderly woman paying for her groceries and kept putting her bank card in the wrong way.  Finally gets it right then can't remember her PIN (entering wrong PIN).  Decides to try a different card (as if that's the problem) and repeats the cycle...multiple times.

After having my information ripped off by a skimmer on a gasoline pump, resulting in the checking account associated with that debit card emptied, I no longer use debit cards for in-store transactions. Got my money restored after sending copy of the police report to the bank. By law they didn’t have to restore anything stolen via debit card.

I agree, never use your debit card at a gas pump.  But at a grocery store you can use it as a credit card.  NEVER use it as a debit card nor divulge your PIN to any store.
