Officers at the south Texas border seized over $18.6 million in methamphetamine during an inspection at the Laredo Port of Entry on Tuesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Saturday.

A CBP field officer assigned to the World Trade Bridge referred a 2010 International Pro Star tractor-trailer carrying paint buckets for secondary inspection when it tried to make entry at the port.

After a canine inspection and a non-intrusive inspection system examination, 2,033 pounds of meth was discovered within the shipment and seized by authorities.

Customs and Border Protection said the drugs had a combined street value of $18,694,838.

Seriously, who is still using meth, considering what we know about it? **** wasn't even good back in the 60s.

And is that $18M in Bidenbucks or real money?

First clue was driver with cold sweat when first approached. Sent to secondary inspection and driver jumped out and beat feet back into Mexico. So they got the drug sniffing dog. I admire the Border Patrol for the job they do, but all these junky dogs sniffing for a new fix are the true heroes! When I regularly commuted, I put a rubber chicken sticking out of my cars grill as if it went in head first. Always got waved through inspection after that. "Here comes that nurse with el pollo loco!"

Why are they even bringing it here?  There's so many meth labs around here, I don't see the point in imports.

Honestly we don’t really see labs up here anymore. They have made ephedrine so hard to get. The factories in Mexico just produce so much that the Beavis and Butthead labs can’t compete.  Most meth arrests are for smuggling/distribution.

Just read today a local guy got busted in AZ. with almost 400 lbs, that he planned on bring back here for distribution.  Getting something like 25 years for that little venture.  Him and four others sentenced for distribution and conspiracy.

I wonder how many cartel people in Mexico get themselves ganked every time a bust like this happens? I doubt if their organizations are very forgiving of failure.

Well, yes and no. The cartels consider the occasional seizure to be a cost of doing business, up to a point. If you really want to get someone killed, seize all their drugs and let them go without charging them. It makes it look like they stole from the cartel. (I wouldn't actually do that)

If you are stupid enough to use drugs, well.....

Ahem,.... we have parallel drug supplies in the usa. See a doctor and get a prescription is the legal to get and use drugs.

See a sketchy hooded figure  on the street corner for your drugs and you're taking a chance. As a career ER nurse......the stories I could tell!

Tennessee, and probably other states, had billboards saying “Unremitting Pain? See Dr. Fix-It.” Or words to that effect.

Had a friend that did this with multiple doctors (called pharming).  He passed out one evening and never woke up.

Narcan (NARCotic ANtagonist) Is now available over the counter! I never thought I'd see the day!! When I was was a Paramedic we had 3 things that would get us an instant standing ovation (sarcastic) by instantly bringing people back from the dead. NARCAN for opiate overdose, GLUCOSE for diabetics with too much insulin, and DEFIBRILLATION (electric shock) for people whose heart was doing the cha cha cha, aka the funky chicken!
