Bloody English!

So I’m spending the evening restoring an old Allcock fishing reel. English made. Belonged to my great grandfather. More to preserving it than using it. It is cleaned, lubed, adjusted and reassembled. All except one nut that was already missing.

I quickly discovered it was not an Imperial thread nut. So I dug out my small stash of metric nuts. No go.

So I made some measurements. It’s a freaking Whitworth nut. Oh well. It will still sit nice on the shelf.

I remember back to the 50's,   Whitworth British ....  Metric All other Euro and good old USA having its own    3 sets of wrenches.....
