janice6
This posting is somewhat fortuitous because about 5 minutes ago my second oldest daughter called to talk to me. She started out saying, "You know that all the while we were growing up, you taught us to not take what we are told too seriously until we did our own research and considered all the sources to make our minds up for ourselfs,..........................." I'll not go into the subject, but I was very proud of her for remembering what she was taught by her parents and letting me know that she realizes the importance of making up her own mind objectively. While raising out children, this was our goal and it appears that we were successful. I've had similar remarks by each of my children.

Might as well enjoy. 31 minutes ago, janice6 said: This posting is somewhat fortuitous because about 5 minutes ago my second oldest daughter called to talk to me. While raising out children, this was our goal and it appears that we were successful. I've had similar remarks by each of my children. One of my son's schoolmates had parents who pushed their kids to be the best at everything. And their kids always excelled. My son was on cruise control and he was the kid that they always struggled to beat. But you could tell that without mom and dad to push them, these kids would have been slackers. I enjoyed it one time when I told the mom that, "Letting the kid learn to make their own decisions was what this was all about." She just gave me a vacuous blank stare. Now my son is on his own at college and he is doing very well. He has shown that he makes his own decisions from a young age. It's nice to know that he can get by without us. 1
