I used to do product photography. It was amazing what we got to get away with. Like if you are doing a shoot for chocolate syrup, you need to use real chocolate syrup. But you don’t need to use real ice cream in the shot because you are not advertising ice cream. We used mashed potatoes instead of ice cream because it didn’t melt.
