What new thing are you learning to do?

The husband started casting his own sabots for the muzzleloaders in the family today.  I'm taking up fly tying later this month, for one more thing to do this winter when I should really be painting the rest of the inside of the house.  What are you doing to keep your brains working?

Went to a seminar about fly tying long ago just for the experience.  It was a blast and I really enjoyed the experience.  Problem was fly fishing is pretty difficult here (relatively), but with 10,000 lakes and 50,000 mud holes, fishing from the boat is more common.  Good luck, I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Just about everything is a challenge any more for new things learned. Still mastering my hydroponic garden, and canning. My garden was burned out of the ground, mostly, by June. Lot's of lessons learned on that one as well. What a year.

I started casting my slugs for my big pellet rifle, (.457 cal)

Loading when I can find components and have to record every little thing any more thanks to that damn wreck.

Not a lot this year, since we had a large remodel after a leak, and I ended up finishing all that, then some health issues with my sight and helping the Lost-in-Laws with a lot of things as I can.

Haven't wet a hook all year, and probably won't. Oh well, one more thing. Will be working over my reels for spring though. LOL I literally have a lake in the back yard. Sad.

Keeping busy.

I'll be learning how to be retired.  My last day in office is this coming Wednesday.  I could be wrong, but I think I'll be pretty good at it soon enough.

It's easy  No place to "Have to be, no time to have to be there!"  (Except Dr and Dentist)

I've been doing it for goin' on 32 years...

:D

Congrats!!. If you are married, be prepared for an adjustment for both of you. As much as we spent time together when working, after being home all the time, it was still an adjustment. We lived through it, so far. :anim_rofl2:

Enjoy the well earned retirement.

My son just went through this too.  It's surprisingly easy to change and do what you want to do for once.

The funny/odd thing for me about retirement was, that my wife and I reconnected to the extent that now I want her by my side every minute.  We no longer fight about petty ****, we learned what's important to us both.   Either one of us can say anything to the other and we both laugh.  We now have no tension, no wondering if something will piss the other off, no anxieties at all.

I did learn to say "I love you, a lot".  My wife asked me why I say it all the time when she knows it.  I tell her that if anything happened, it's the last thing I want her to hear from me.....

One day the waitress at the restaurant asked my wife if she had a pet name for me.  She said, "yes".  "*******!"  You could almost hear the collective inhale from the customers around us.  Then they heard me laughing and saying, "It's true!  She calls me that often"!

There is a line in an old song that goes," If I could hate her like I love her, God knows I would.  But the last thing she said was I love you".

I just learned how to sync Brave between 4 computers on 3 OSs. So all my links and logins are the same everywhere. I still don't have anything profound to say, but I can say it from wherever I'm logged in.

As for finding stuff to do in retirement - join a local Nextdoor group. There are many lonely ladies there who need their squeaky hinges lubricated...

I would highly recommend NOT syncing logins through your browser.  Works great for your bookmarks, but not a secure method of maintaining your passwords.  A much better, more secure option is a password manager.  It can generate super secure passwords, unique for each website.  And best of all, you only need to remember one.  Most of the better ones work with 2FA (two factor authentication) as well.

I recommend the free version of Bitwarden.  It's highly recommended, easy to use, and works for Windows, macOS and Linux.

And thanks for the tip on Nextdoor.  I'll give it a look.
