I get why folks just release a dog in the wild they don't want.  It's a dog!  It can survive on it's own.  I don't get why folks do sadistic **** like throwing animals off bridges or into lakes while still in cages.  Sociopaths always start off being cruel to animals.  I don't support police brutality, but I think I can look the other way pretty damn easy if a cop wants to give an animal abuser some hickory therapy in an alley.

No reason to even release a dog into "the wild", shelters will take most dogs...Cruelty to animals is indefensible :shakefist:

I’ve had cats off and on - mostly on - since childhood. Several dogs, but not so many.

Currently living in the country, a noticeable percentage of the cats have been “homesteaders”. Even when living in the city, several cats were homesteaders. I’ve not had homesteader dogs, at least partly due to leash laws I suspect.

Unfortunately I cannot adopt all the discarded cats or dogs I come across, but those cats coming to me seeking food will receive it.

I managed our apartment building near the University of Utah. At the end of every semester the end area was overrun with cats. The students would get a kitten then just abandon them when they moved out.

I started taking their contact info to different authorities when I could match up an abandoned cat to the owner. Don’t know if it did any good but I tried to make them think twice about doing it again.

I did contact a couple mothers and told them what the kids had done. That might have had some consequences.
