ChuteTheMall
"72 & '76 I was mad at Nixon and Ford before I got mad at Carter. I was also in college and then in government in the '70's. Both brainwashed me. In 1980 I stood in the voting booth talking myself into voting for Reagan and the GOP. Never backslid.
Batesmotel
They say if you are young and not a democrat, you have no heart. If you are old and not a Republican, you have no brain. I guess I’m just heartless. Even before I understood the parties I leaned to the Republicans. I think it came from some of the people I had to deal with as a kid. In both the neighborhood and our family company. I didn’t like the people I later for out were democrats. 3

LostinTexas
Family wanted me to be Democrat. Just another disappointment for them. Thought my grandma's head was going to explode when she found out I voted for Reagan. You know, cause Carter was doing such a fine job and the economy was in such good shape. 1

Huaco Kid
At 18, I registered Independent, because I was already indefinable. I used to vote mixed, picking whom I thought was best. Can't do that anymore.

Maser
All throughout Jr. High I labeled myself as a Democrat because I knew it would piss off all the Conservative adults in my Conservative hometown. Kids are suppose to piss off adults at that age! Then in High School I labeled myself as a neo-Republican. Wasn't until I was 19 and became serious about my political beliefs and became a Libertarian and have been one ever since. My 33rd birthday is in 2 weeks.
janice6
My father owned rental property since I was 6 years old. I remember "Rent Control" and saw the effect it had on my family. No! I have never been a Democrat. I have always believed in the individual and ones ability to, say, choose, be whatever you worked for, free, and in working for what you have. I believe that if you want what I worked for, pee on you! You helped your fellow man, but not carried him. Everyone has some abilities and it's up to each of us to make the best of them. I know what I want out of life. You figure out what it is you want for you! 3
minervadoe
I used to be a Democrat. But, more and more, I did research and realized that I disagreed with most of the crap they wanted.

I was against Nixon and Ford because of Watergate and voted for Carter but I really didn't understand what Watergate was really all about but the news media made out like Nixon was guilty of being crooked which looking back, there was no comparison with the crooked things Obama, Hillary, and Biden have done recently and got away with it. And then after 4 years of Carter I voted for Reagan and never voted for a Democrat again.
NPTim
In the county I grew up in, if you weren’t democrat, you didn’t vote in primaries. Thought about converting to islam in college for a girl, God protected me from that mistake as well.

When they take down the US, they will have world dominance. That may very well be why the communists are so snot slinging, hell bent for leather to take down the US Constitution.

The Daley Machine in Chicago was rumored to have cheated to throw Chicago, thus Illinois, and thus the presidency to Kennedy. Nixon refused to challenge this, even though many wanted him to. “Better the nation knows now who the next president will be than that I be the next president after a protracted battle.” Al Gore did not feel this way about Florida. Nixon resigned rather than drag the nation through a lengthy impeachment/trial process over Watergate. Clinton chose to put the nation through an impeachment/trial process over a matter which got him disbarred and fined by the state where he was licensed to practice law.

Mrs.Cicero
I registered as an Independent on my 18th birthday. I was also a damn tree-hugging, dirt-worshipping, barefoot vegetarian hippie chick who had no idea why anyone needed a gun ( I said go hunt with a bow if you want to hunt, it's fairer?). Then... oh, I don't know. Being stalked by a cougar changed my position on firearms. And so did discovering that TKD does not provide one with a good ground game, and really, when you are 110# soaking wet, a gun is a way better equalizer. Also, I took my long-suffering husband to this little French restaurant near our apt in NoVA for his birthday, and after a decade of no meat except one bowl of clam chowder each year, I ordered myself a venison steak with a raspberry/blueberry sauce, cream of garlic soup, salad, fresh bread - the best meal I had ever eaten in my entire life to that point (my mother is not a cook) - said to my husband, "We have to start hunting. I want to eat like this for the rest of my life." - Well, that meant finding someone to teach me to shoot - my fave firearms instructor in all the world was Recon in Vietnam the year I was born, and he has no qualms about setting recovering hippies straight, lol. From that point on, all the best people in my life turned out to be conservatives and libertarians. The funniest thing about this is... in all that time, I never voted Democrat. I liked Reagan (too young to vote for him, though), I voted for Bush Sr., voted for Perot, and the Dems from that point on have been so incredibly corrupt and sleazy, there isn't a chance in hell I'd ever vote for one, ever. 5
