Also if the control circuit fails then the whole panel must be replaced to gain function again.  There are means to add redundancy to ensure reliability but at the trade off of additional cost and complexity.

You have to decide which is more important to you (you being the customer or you being the manufacturer)  The customer picks up the cost of maintanence but the manufacturer picks up the reduced cost of manufacturing.

Integration is cheaper to make but more expensive to repair.
