gwalchmai
Nah, I ain't talking about Karine/Dexter this time. Looks like the State giveth and the State taketh back. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/states-confirm-plan-tax-student-loan-handout-funds JACKSON, Miss. – Student loan borrowers across the country could soon see up to $20,000 of their student loan debt forgiven in the massive handout announced by President Biden – but it still may come at a cost. State tax may be charged on student loan handout funds. The tax laws vary from state to state. Former Mississippi State college student Dee Stegall said he recently found out he qualified to have $20,000 of his student loans forgiven. "I was very relieved to hear that that relief was coming from the federal government," Stegall said. ========================================== Looks like Stegall didn't learn who pays for stuff, though... 2 1
Mrs.Cicero
I'm laughing. We're actually eligible for this stupid plan, and it would pay off the last of the husband's student loans from grad school. We are NOT DOING IT. Because WE PAY OUR DEBTS. LGB/FJB forever! 3
Huaco Kid
The one time around, my daughter's old boyfriend said, "I like Bernie because he's "more for the people" ::coffcoffcommiecoffcoff:: and Bernie is going to forgive student loans." I told him that that would be nice, and to enjoy paying for everyone's college for the rest of his life. The look on his face was priceless. He. Never. Even. Thought. Of. That. lol. 1
minervadoe
I got accepted to some pretty decent private schools, but elected to go to much less expensive cal state universities. Why? Less of a burden on my parents. No borrowing required. Now, after my career took a back seat to people that went to expensive private schools, I have to pay off their loans too? Hell no!!
janice6
We helped my son and daughter. But the majority of debt they worked hard while going to school to pay for themselves. they got their degrees debt free though hard work. This was the lesson we were going for! Now they have to pay for the deadbeats that got a loan promising to pay it off and reneging on that promise. Apparently an education doesn't guarantee any ethical commitment. Maybe if their degree was in a field that was in demand it would have paid them a better salary. Liberal arts degrees are a dime a dozen. Fast food and clerical retail doesn't require much knowledge. That's why it doesn't pay as much as STEM majors.
Dukenukem
I knew people who would get more in loans than tuition and costs and take the extra cash and blow it on vehicles, 4 wheelers, boats, whatever other toys or traveling around and partying. I’m guessing most just spent too much on degrees that don’t provide careers that pay back. Either way, if you are going to bail people out you should curb the problem so we aren’t doing it every few years. I paid my education off making about 100 k a year less than the top qualifying income so I don’t understand why others can’t do it. 2
janice6
I was brought up to believe that when I signed an agreement, my word meant something and I had to stand behind it. I've paid off every loan I have ever had. Now I am being told I am the stupid one............... My word still means the world to me! 4
