pipedreams
They never stop.......... "More than two dozen environmental organizations petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to ban the use of natural gas for home heating nationwide, arguing the federal agency must regulate “deadly pollution from heating appliances.” The petition, sponsored by the Sierra Club, claims fossil fuel-fired home furnaces, water heaters, clothes dryers and stoves emit enough nitrogen dioxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2) that they must be classified as “new stationary sources” of air pollutants, placing them in the same regulatory regime as power plants and factories. The petition resembles – but goes beyond Gov. Jared Polis’ Greenhouse Gas Roadmap for a clean heat program, a key component of efforts to transition to a natural gas-free heating economy. “Gas heating appliances, such as water heaters, furnaces, boilers, stoves, and clothes dryers represent about 80% of fossil fuel-fired heating appliances and emit the majority of appliance pollution, including both climate-disrupting GHG emissions and pollutants that directly impact human health,” the petition says." https://denvergazette.com/news/environment/sierra-club-environmental-groups-petition-epa-to-ban-natural-gas-for-home-heating/article_256ea4ca-28bd-11ed-a31c-fb00aa7f1db2.html https://www.technocracy.news/epa-petitioned-for-nationwide-ban-on-natural-gas-for-home-heating-cooking/
minervadoe
Just amazing. Here in sunny California, our grid is on the verge of failure and we are told not to use electrical appliances (like air conditioning and electric ovens) from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. If we didn't have a gas stove top, we'd have to stress the grid to make lunch and dinner. Imagine how much worse electrical grid stress and failures would be if there was no gas heating. Electric home heating has to draw a lot of power from the grid. Can these well meaning petitioners even manage to do that analysis? I am doubtful that they will even try, much less be aware that is a necessary part of their proposed mandate. Not to mention that proposed green energy supplies from solar and wind work very poorly in the winter. Just ask Texas.
Batesmotel
Good Comrades. Do you not understand? It is not about the environment. It is about creating dependence on the state. Now be a good party member and report your dissident neighbor for wrong doing in his cooking. 1

Why don't they volunteer to set an example for all by dying first.
Cougar_ml
natural gas is bad, but propane is still acceptable? And what do they think the local power plant is using as a fuel source?

And what do they think the local power plant is using as a fuel source? Impassioned people embrace a cause without understanding the short and long term ramifications of their cause. They just need something to prostrate themselves for, to show they believe in martyrdom. Look at Europe and see what happened to them when Russia shut off the natural gas they used to heat and cook with. Now they are freezing and panicking over what to do to replace this energy source. Plants have been modified to use Natural gas and what will they replace it with to generate electrical power and for heating..................... Coal? Europe was a major consumer of Coal prior to moving to Russian Natural Gas as a "clean fuel". Now they are scrambling for any fuel........... Be careful what you wish for - You just might get it! 1

railfancwb
No new hydroelectric either. With modern two way turbines and motor/generators they can pump water back into lakes in periods of low demand and release it in periods of high demand. Electricity for the pumping phase comes from steam plants which can then be kept running at their most efficient level. Pumped storage could also be more efficient than battery banks to deal with wind and solar generation.
