Happy Dogs

Recommended Posts

When we brought our rescue female dog home and would have to leave her alone, when we came back her little stuffed toys were always in a different place on the house.

We thought she was carrying them around for company while we were gone.  One evening we were all in the living room watching a movie (all = mom and me + Sophie our new dog)  She started to pounce around and seemed in a playful mood (She was 15 years old and 27 lbs. when we got her (little dog)).

We watched as she picked up a little stuffed toy and fell on it rubbing herself all over it.  Then she sat up and picked up the toy in her mouth.  She flipped her head and sent the toy flying up into the air.  When it came down she hit it mid air, with her paw and sent it into the hallway.

We watched her for almost a half-hour playing chase with herself.  She is a marvelous dog and the smartest dog we have ever had. (all our previous dogs were males (?))  She was said to be alone a lot later in her life, so we suppose she played by herself.

She was a family pet for 14 years when they simply dumped her at the animal rescue where we found her a year later.  She is a most wonderful addition to our family and as all of us are "old", we get along so well together.

We couldn't be more pleased that she will spend the rest of her life with us.  She had figured out how to open doors that aren't completely latched and will procede us into the bedroom by opening the door for us when it's bedtime.

Every morning when we wake up we pick her up and bring her into our bed between us and fuss over her telling her just how much we love her and how blessed we were to get her in our lives.

She know some words and cocks her head when she hears them then licks us on the cheek in return.  She is wonderful.  I can't believe anyone would throw away so much love and wonderment.  She's ours to make up for her past disappointments as best we can.  Dogs are wonderful companions.
