Why Are So Many Young People Going Off The Rails?

"After the multiple Independence Day shootings, where a 21-year-old, armed lunatic shot into an Ohio crowd of people from a nearby rooftop, not long after another 18-year-old, armed lunatic shot up students and staff in a Texas school, I began to ponder why so many young people are going off the rails.

Just as I was sitting and thinking about it, a news text popped up on my telephone stating, “Washington state school board director to teach sexual pleasure class to 9-year-olds at sex shop.”  No mention whether or not parents were on board with the idea or not.

Meanwhile, a related article, viewed in the same space read, “Colorado Mom says middle-school invited her daughter to secret LGBTQ club, told students to keep info from parents.” "

"This is only a very tiny glimpse at what has gone wrong and how it’s contributing to the emotional, mental, moral, and spiritual sickness of our young people, many of whom probably have never even heard of the Ten Commandments or the real principles of law and order.

We are reaping what we have sown as a community of parents, educators, politicians, religious leaders, media and corporations.  We only need look at ourselves to see the monsters we have created, by shirking our own moral responsibility, in making sure that our children receive sound ethics, respect for others, understand how to deal honestly and justly and show care and regard for those who need help.

Without these values, everything will go to rot, and didn’t we get a pretty good picture of that on Independence Day – the time which, ironically, celebrates the greatness of a country which promises liberty and justice for all!"

They're going off the rails because they are spending 12 hours a day (school plus "after-care) in the company of their unsocialized age cohort, and with minimal interaction with adults who actually give a damn about them as individuals.  Then they go home to parents who are either not there physically, or exhausted, or addicted to their damn phones and ignoring their kids, or to parents who are too drunk, stoned, or stupid,  to give a hoot what their kids are doing.  imho, ymmv

We teach kids they deserve instant gratification for everything. We don’t teach them how to deal with disappointment when they don’t get it. When this becomes an issue we just give them antidepressants or psychotropic drugs. When those don’t work they have no coping skills.

Add all the weird chemicals in food these days, nonstop advertising telling everyone they are bad, evil, unhappy people unless they buy a product, medicating for anything and everything with chemicals that permanently alter brain chemistry for temporary issue, and nonstop promotion of completely unrealistic everything, it's almost a wonder that more haven't fallen off the deep end.

  • Violent tv shows and media glorify violence when the good guy is justified to go on a killing spree.
  • Violent computer games program people to automatically kill other people.  It is gratifying to do so and there are no repercussions.
  • Social media posts have replaced actually socializing.
  • The news media makes any one committing murder instantly famous.
  • The news media intentionally pushes only their side of the story and portrays all other opinions and social groups as the enemy.  It is dangerously divisive.  They spew and propagate hate.
  • Violence in all forms of entertainment (tv, movies, video games) has desensitized all of us to bloodshed and brutality and the cognitive dissonance from enjoying it makes enjoyment of violence addictive.

  • SSRIs are present in the overwhelming number of mass shooting cases.

This 100% ^^^^^. By and large, kids have zero coping skills these days as they rarely have to “suck it up.”
