These saws really didn't have much power or speed, but the chain was often 3/4 pitch compared to modern saws that run 3/8 or .325 pitch.
Huaco Kid
Can you take the chain and blade off, fit one of those big screws on there, turn it sideways and dig post holes?

Yes, but at some point somebody's getting cut in half.

When the auger hangs up, you get a carnival ride. These things can screw themselves right into the ground if you don't lift and clear them. Then you are digging them out. Don't ask how I know.
Fog
Was augering post holes with a modern version that was supposed to have a "safety clutch". This was out in the woods, little ways out, you could see the town, but that's because I was like 1000' in elevation above it. Hit a large root and it dislocated my shoulder, hurt like a SOB. I left the auger and stumbled to the nearest tree, lined everything up with my other hand and then slammed it back into place against the tree. Instant relief. Sat down for a few minutes to let my head clear, drank some water, and got back to work. Doctor was mad at me, said I should have come right in and not used shoulder for several weeks. He didn't volunteer to pay my bills for the interval so I guess it wasn't that important to him.
