Good news if a trend.

Major movie studios censoring or altering content to appease China has been one of the biggest stories in Tinseltown for several years now. A new report, however, reveals that at least one entertainment company wasn’t willing to play that game.

Multiple unnamed sources told the Hollywood trade publication, Puck, that Sony Pictures refused to make changes to its 2021 blockbuster “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in order to secure a release in the Middle Kingdom.

According to the outlet, “Chinese regulators” (China’s National Film Administration answers to the Chinese Communist Party) were bothered by “patriotic” scenes in the movie’s climactic action sequence at the Statue of Liberty. The CCP asked Sony to cut shots that clearly showed Peter Parker and his squad of good guys battling villains on top of Lady Liberty. When the Japanese-owned company rebuffed that request, censors then asked producers to minimize the statue or darken scenes that included it so it would be less noticeable.

Once again, Sony said no. As a result, China banned the film.

Analysts estimate that Sony’s decision to pass up the rich box office potential in the world’s largest movie market likely cost the film between $170 and $340 million.

If everybody told China to F off, we'd all be in a much better situation.  As it is, when they force studios to use terrible Chinese actors for a lead position or demand that black actors not be used, everybody suffers from the diminished film content.

While the first DVD of the new release made was still warm,  people in China were making millions of bootlegs.  They've already seen it.

Dr. Strange is banned in Saudi Arabia because of a scene the alludes to gayness.  They've already seen it.

Some guy in N. Korea was sentenced to death for possession of Squid Game.  Everyone destroyed their copy,  after they saw it.

Years ago got a couple tickets to a Sahara preview. Had security at the entrance checking to keep out video cameras. Suspect in modern times pirate copies come directly from studios.

Nobody makes money in china, they get a payout so the next guy will fall for the con. Every company I know that has worked with china has learned the hard way that in the end they lose. China copies their products and floods any market they can with the knock-offs.

Many times they will make a huge order and then offer financing to ramp up production, then they take delivery and refuse payment, and use our courts to take over the company.

So is this portion of Sony controlled by an American group, or Japanese?

If Japanese, I can totally understand why they wouldn't do something just to make China happy.

If American, well, good for them for having a spine, unlike all the woke companies.
