Rolling stops for energy conservation.

I propose that we make rolling stops (~5mph) legal in order to save gas and make the world a better place. Drivers would still be responsible for moving violations, just as they are at roundabouts.

I think the good outweighs the bad on this one. Change my mind.

They already do this in our area.  Except their speed is constant, not slowed down by anything.

Or we could bring back Obama's "Cash for Clunkers" boondoggle and all buy subsidized electric vehicles.

I never understood why I should have to pay for someone else's mistake.

“Stop. Look. Turn right on red if clear.” Has been the rule since Jimmy Carter. Most drivers seem to have only mastered “Turn right on red.”

I thought it was long before Jimmah.

What about roundabouts?

I was riding my bike yesterday and I came to a full stop at a stop sign.  As I moved through the intersection a man in an expensive BMW just could not bring himself to completely stop his car.  Instead, performing the exalted "rolling stop."  I could not tell if he A) did not see me, B) was drunk, C) wanted to run me down, or D) was just going to time it so that I would roll by just after he began to lurch forward again.  SO, I had to come to a complete stop a second time, while he waved me on with some inane apologetic look on his face.

I sometimes use my 6MT as a 4 (1, 3, 5, 6) or even a 3 (1, 3, 6).

6 is so tall I only use it if I’m interstate cruising at 80 mph plus. I can average over 20 mpg turning 2,000 rpm’s at 90 mph.

I'm not slipping it. There's 18 gears there. It's as if I had a higher rear end ratio if I use a 3rd or 4th to get going rather than deep under.

I was thinking the same. Engineering 'Splained guy disagrees, though.

People around here roll through stop signs regularly. The idiots can't see you and yield right of way with a full stop and 5 seconds. I can't count the times my RED car with DRL's has been forced to emergency brake, sometimes the car doing it, every week.

Giving these fools the option of being more foolish isn't a good idea. Everyone is "Too Busy" to pay attention to driving as it is.

Then there is the fool behind the lesser fool with no intention of stopping, but the lesser fool does stop and gets hit because fool #2 is paying attention to their phone or radio, or Apple Car, because they "can handle it". At least fool #1 has a car to protect them, unless on a bike or walking. Yep, sounds great.
