Holy Rose. :)

"A sheriff in Florida is encouraging residents to take gun safety courses after a homeowner fired multiple shots at an intruder on Wednesday, stopping the individual who allegedly broke into several homes....

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said in a press conference on Thursday that one of the homeowners fired gunshots at Harris, and said that he was arrested after being cornered in a house that he allegedly broke into....

Johnson also encouraged other residents to follow in the homeowner's footsteps and take gun safety classes, adding that they are "more than welcome" to shoot anyone who is breaking in to their house.

"I guess they think they did something wrong, which they did not. If someone's breaking into your house, you're more than welcome to shoot them in Santa Rosa County. We prefer that you do, actually. So, whoever that was, you're not in trouble, come see us. We have a gun safety class we put on every other Saturday," Johnson said.

The sheriff added that residents who take the course will shoot a gun "a lot better," and maybe save taxpayers some money.

"If you take that, you'll shoot a lot better, and hopefully you'll save the taxpayers money," Johnson said."  https://www.foxnews.com/us/florida-sheriff-promotes-gun-safety-course-residents-shoot-home-invaders

When I was planning a move to Pasco County, my due diligence included the efficiency of the Sheriff's office. I found out that when someone was creating problems they would receive a cordial visit from a Deputy. And the Deputy would say, "[W]e have been receiving complaints, you have one week to move". Or sumpthin like that. You get the picture, they got the picture.

Also, there were a lot of ghosts in the greater area. If you don't bother them, they won't turn into poltergeists.  D)

I always told people to get a gun and learn how to use it.

Many people were surprised a badge would tell them that, I only knew of a couple coworkers that woldn't say the same. We knew all too well that we showed up to investigate after a crime, actually stopping one was rare, and rarer still to prevent one.

Our County Sheriff was against concealed carry to the point that he fought it harshly in the press.  It passed anyway, due to the "outstate" vote.

After one year he went to the press to apologize to the people and he said he was wrong!  He said that after a year of many citizens carrying legally, he had not had one instance of them being a problem.

He said he now believed that the citizens carrying guns were the most law abiding and conscientious of his County.

He went on to the state legislature and asked to have the cost of a permit cut since he wasn't spending much time on the issuance and he wanted to show his office was behind those who carry.  I'm proud of my County Sheriff.

A good friend and shooting partner of mine, a Concealed Handgun License holder at the time,  was stopped for a traffic violation in Garland, Texas -- a suburb of Dallas.

At the time, Texas was not a must-confess state, thus one did not legally have to disclose the fact that they were or were not armed.

The police, sheriffs and constables knew if you had a CHL, it showed up when they ran your automobile registration.  Heck, everyone in the world knew because the hippie Marxists made that public knowledge.  :shakefist:   Hey, Mister Goblin.  Looking for a firearm to steal?  Here's a list of your prospects.

Back the the traffic stop.

Being not only a CHL instructor and NRA instructor, as I was, he respected law enforcement, so when the officer appeared at his window, my buddy, hands on steering wheel announced, I have a CHL.  I am not armed.

The officer scowled at him and said, Why the hell not?

Garland is a solid, American blue-collar city.

One time I handed the officer my DL and the CHL.  He said that if you don't touch yours I won't touch mine!.. I didn't neither did he.

Another time he just handed my cards back to me without comment.

Another time he asked me where mine was?  I said on my right hip.  He just nodded.

Nobody made a big deal of my being armed and we had an amiable contact.

You only get shot if you don't respect the cop and his authority.
